Tightened your power steering belt, and check on the rubber bushings guiding your steering wheel's shaftinside your steering column of hardening due to wear and tear, Options: oil it up, but it wont stay long or replace the rubber bushings.

I have a 96 Oldsmobile siera 3.1L starter makes a whining noise but sounds like it's coming from the back of engine.

Fred, if starter is making a whining noise, it may be on it's way out/faulty. Take vehicle into a good shop and have a good tech. diagnose and estimate repair.

Whining noise progressively gets louder with speed

One wheel turning faster than the other is normal if both wheels are off the ground. If one wheel is dragging when the other wheel is on the ground, it could be brakes or a wheel hub bearing.
Usually if the noise happens on right turns, the left hub bearing is failing, and vice versa.

1999 ford explorer limited whining noise in front end

Whining noise is probably in one of the pulleys or belts. Probably the power steering. And the popping is probably CV axles.

Whining when i press gas

normally, the only part of your automatic transmission that will make a whining noise is the pump. it usually whines when iether the fluid is low or more commonly when the transmission oil filter is getting plugged up.

the power steering pump will also make a whining noise too.

turn the wheel all the way to the right and hold steady pressure against the stop. this puts maximum force on the power steering pump and, if the power steering pump is the one making the whine, it will change the sound of it. (usually louder).

if the trans pump is making the whine noise, it should sound different in neutral compared to drive. this test will really only work if it make the noise without the vehicle moving. if it wont do it at idle hold the rpms at 2000 or so.

if you decide the noise is coming from the transmission, and the transmission filter has not been replaced (assuming you installed a used transmission), replace the filter by removing the oil pan.

oh and also, if it is the power steering pump you should be able to make it make the whining noise while the vehicle is stationary. if it wont make noise unless its moving its not the power steering pump.

Car is running high oil pressure between 60 to 80. it runs it always high and kinda makes a whining noise. its a camaro ss 2002

The oil pressure is normal. A whining sound could come from anywhere on the vehicle from the power steering, alternator, auto transmission, the water pump or even the air conditioner. It could be the power steering pump. Check this by moving the steering wheel back and forth. This will put load on the system and it will increase the whining if it is the problem.

Whining noise when turnins steering wheel &

the whining noise you are experiencing are coming from under the bonnet and you need to have the belt serviced. look for any oil leaks and correct them first. if not inspect the condition of the belt and and whether or not you can read it normally. if not it should be turned around. sounds absolutely crazy i know. it has worked for me for about 10 years. it could be just worn and excessively glazed and cracked. simple fix bloke. cheers.

Whining noise from steering when turning steering wheel left or right even when parked with engine running

Check the level in the power steering fluid reservoir. You most likely need a top up. The noise is caused by the pump effectively pumping air through the system. Top up to the level marked in the reservoir then turn on the engine and move the steering wheel around for a wile then turn off an re top up to the level marked in the reservoir and all should then be OK. Make sure you use the correct fluid for the car – usually a Red Dexron Hydraulic Fluid.

Power steering noise

First thing is to check the level of the power steering fluid. If you're low, add enough to bring it back into range. If not, remove the cap and jack the front end off the ground (both wheels). With the cap off, turn the wheel lock to lock, back and forth, several times, to see if any air bubbles need to be bled out (this will bleed them). Then check the fluid level again and top it off as needed.

If neither of these helps, have the steering system checked by a shop - you may have a problem with the steering shaft, the tie rods, or the rack itself.
