Is it a knock or a tick because it is very common with most vehicles at cold starts to tick a little until the engine warms up because the oil has to circulate into the top end of the engine and oil tends to be much thicker when cold which makes it even harder to get it from the oil pan to the rest of the engine. I work at an oil change shop and draining cold oil takes forever. Take maple syrup and put it in the freezer, then take it out and pour some out, then warm it up in the microwave and do the same and you will see how much quicker and easier it flows. same concept.

Is there any smoke when you first start it? what is happening is the valve seals are probably worn and letting the oil seep past them. when your engine is first started it has no oil or very little oil at the top of the engine, thus causing the knocking noise. could be more but this is a most likely answer. oh and is you haven't changed your oil every 3,000 miles you had beeter start doing it.... answer knocking sounds usually come from bottom of engine try a better quality and correct viscosity oil

I have a 1999 5.4 f150 4x4 loud knocking started on passanger side also guages all pinned and bounced around truck runs rough and stalls what could it be

it sounds like a critical internal failure is eminent . if the oil pressure is ok,it could be a bent or broken valve as the exhaust leak can let the valves cool to fast and warp. however it sounds more critical than that. do a compression test on that side and see if the #'s are consistent.

My 84 toyota truck engine 22r has a valve knock. when i start my truck i hear a loud knock coming from the head.do i need to adjust the valves?

check the valve adjust and see if one valve is lower/higher than the rest. The valves are hydraulically adjusted and if the knock is really loud watch for a slight miss at rpm's. The only thing that will give a loud noise is a loose valve seat insert. You may pick it up with a compression test.

2009 Ford Flex when started first thing on a cold morning it ticks/knocs really really loud, once it warms up the ticking goes away to a very light tick. The dealership ruled out an exhaust manifold leak....

It does sound like a valve lifter problem to me also. It should be covered under warranty. It's a mechanical failure of a component of the drivetrain. Ask them to show you the specific exclusion if they say it's not a warranty problem.Powertrain warranty is 60 months/60,000 miles ( which ever comes first).

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala. I ran my car with no oil and now I'm hearing a loud ticking/knocking noise coming from under my valve cover. I added 2 bottles of oil after finding out that I didnt have any...

might be the valves have been damaged running without oil
- or the crankshaft / camshaft / main bearings
most probably you have to let the engine be rebuilt by a mechanic
(expect cost of more than US$ 2.000)
or get another (used) engine at a scrapyard 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-0.jpg 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-2.jpg

Car started noise like nock ing that was from Clutch in AC copmressor

It could be the compressor is going out, or the clutch itself is worn out. If the AC still gets cold, then it is the clutch.

CHECK THE OIL LEVEL, IT MAY BE LOW AND WHAT YOU HEARS IS A VALVE TAPPING.

I don't think its actually a problem, its just because the engine is cold, i don't think you have something to wary about.
