Question about 1986 Chevrolet K2500

Truck only drives in 4x4

I was using my uncles truck this weekend, and used the 4x4 a couple times. when I parked it and went to use it, the transmission(4 spd standard) would go into gear but would not go forward. I put it into 4x4 and put it into gear and the front tires would turn but not the back. What is wrong with this, is the transfer case locked up or is there something I can do?

The security system has disabled the starter. I had this happen on an earlier model Honda Civic. As a solution, we bypassed the starter and added a push-button switch on the inside of the car. So you'd turn the key to start, hit the button, and it started. We took a bit and drilled a hole in the lower dash for the button to fit, some place easily reach by the driver. From the switch we ran 2 wires, one to the ignotion wire, that we pulled off the starter, and the other to the + side of the battery.

This was the cheapest route. I had attempted to remove the security system, but to no avail.

If you're looking for a professional fix...I'm sorry I don't really have one.

Hope this helps.

Did you accidentally push a button the dash to make the car read in metric? That would make sense if things were in kilometers instead of miles. Can't remember exactly how the 2005 model was but there should be buttons on the left side of the dash and one of those would change from miles to km. If your dash isn't like that, let me know and we can figure it out.

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram hemi 1500 4x4. would not start.

I suspect the gas tank has some crud on the bottom that gets sucked in when level is very low and/or truck is parked on an incline.Suggest installing in-line fuel filter, let gas level get nearly empty and then check in-line filter. If there's junk in the filter, tank needs to be cleaned. Or just keep the tank a quarter full until it can be cleaned.

Grinding noises when 4x4 is engaged

Most likely wheel bearing or cv joint issue. look for a ripped open cv boot. I believe that year used cv joints instead of regular u-joints. Hope I helped. Thanks
