2003 Toyota Highlander

My 2003 toy highlander has 107,000 miles on it and it was doing fine. This morning it started to idle very rough. Any information as to where to look for this problem would be helpful. Thank you.

I'm sorry ED yes it is. the VSC light is also illuminated. We just had the trans fluid flushed and oil changed. They put in a new air cleaner and I checked to make sure all the hoses were connected properly. Should I have the codes checked? Thank you for the quick response. Glen

ED- just to let you know i ran my codes and three came up. all three had to do with a misfire. One spark plug was fouled so we changed all six. My toy runs like a top again. Thank you Ed for your time and information. Glen

Yes, get the codes checked, and get back to me.....You are sure that the hose on the air filter box is connected? The little rubber hose has been known to get unhooked when changing the air filter. This will def set off the light. Get the codes, if it is on, and post me back.

2003 toyota highlander. when starting it wont maintain idle.

Try to adjust the idle of the truck because there is a possibility the idle is low and if still not work put the gear in neutral and then start it and step on the gas pedals for 20 sec.

Intermittent rough idle on 2002 toyota highlander

before you do this I would get some wooden qtips - the long ones auto detailers use. take off the air filtrer assembly and spray carb cleaner into the air\fuel intake and use the qtip to wipe out the inside of the intake. I had the same problem with my highlander a year ago and this fixed the problem.

When do I change the transmission fluid in my 2003 Highlander?

If the fluid smells burnt or is black, replace fluid. Manufacturer suggests that you inspect it at every 30,000 mile interval. I would suggest having it flushed every 75,000 miles as a normal maintenence.

Engine won't idle

The Idle Air Control (I.A.C.) valve is bad. This allows the vehicle to idle with no pressure on the pedal. Replace it.

You should have had the transmission fluid changed at 30, 000 miles, and you should have the transmission flushed at 60,000.
Change the timing belt at 90, 000 miles (if you have a V-6).
Change the air filter every 15,000 miles.
Check the spark plug condition at 60,000, and change the coolant at 60,000.
