Same thing with my car it's being diagnosed still after a day at the repair shop. They tell me it could be the computer which could cost 2k. I've repeatedly replaced headlight/tail lights and also the transmission/motor for the windshield wipers. I have 65k miles on the car. Now this. The interior lights go on and off when the door is open and there was also a brake clamp issue making rattling noises when I first started to drive it. I'll don't think I'll ever buy another kia if this continues.

engine light on...after replacing plugs, coil packs, everything suggested. The error message is misfire on #1 and #4 cylinder. When driving above 40 mph car will just lose power and then when you give it gas rpms go up but cannot obtain speed. Letting off gas and trying again sometimes help but this is very dangerous when traveling on the highway.

If it is a misfire, then that means it is probably the plug or the wire, change those first, if not then yes check the injector.

My 2004 Sorento 3.5 had the same problem, dead #5 cylinder. Replaced plugs, coil pack, wires, computer $$$ and still dead and would hardly pull itself. Would backfire some when trying to drive and no power. would only give a code for dead #5 cylinder. Two very good shops and one very bad dealership and hundreds of dollars later, still nothing. I took the car home and took the front of the engine off and found the timing belt tensioner was stuck and over time had allowed enough slack in the timing belt to slip one "cog" on the crankshaft. This could not be found with the codes and was only found by taking it down to the belt and checking the cams and crankshaft timing. Not a job for the faint of heart. Lots of work on this type of job. Hydraulic tensioner had just stuck and wouldn't keep the timing belt tight enough. The tensioner looked good on the outside (no leaks) but when put in my vise to reset, we found it would not return to the extended position. This is not common but I have found several people with this type of symptom with little or no solution found on-line. The dealer said the cylinder was dead and the engine would have to be rebuilt to the tune of almost $3000. NOT!!! If all tests have not found a cause, you may wish to invest in a new timing belt tensioner, timing belt and water pump.

2004 Ford Escape engine missfire

that sounds like those cylinders injectors might be the problem . When an injector over fuels or fails to supply fuel it would create a misfire just like if a plug or coil failed

My 2004 trailblazer is still missing on #2 & #5 after changing all plugs and new cpil packs. Is it the cylinders, head or bad wires and or connectors?

might be worth doing a compression test on all the cylinders to see if those two cylinders are close to the other 4. If there is significant difference in compression than I would say your on the right track with pulling the head to take a look.

If compression is fine than it could be injectors. you can try swapping the number 2 and 5 injectors with other cylinders to see if the misfire follows the injector. If it does replace the injectors.

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

05 kia Sorrento #5 misfired already replace spark plug coil & injector same code still comes up #5 misfired can someone help me with this problem

you replaced the plug and injector but there is no mention of the HT lead or distributor cap being replaced or checked
It is possible that there is a crack or carbon track inside the cap which is also misfire for that cylinder. HT leads are carbon filled tracks with a wire insert at each end and if that wire fails to make contact with the carbon ( incorrect method of pulling from plug or cap) then the resistance in that lead makes the spark late which results in a misfire report.

Tech notes
The P0305 code means that the cylinder 5 is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks an if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 5. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem, see "Possible Causes"

Random multiple misfire P0300, P0302, P0304 on 2006 Kia Rio

A competent mechanic will check all probable causes associated with these DTC codes.
Code P0300: Random-Multiple misfire detected. Probable causes:
1. Vacuum leaks, damaged hoses, or improper routing
2. Fuel contamination
3. Ignition system - Ignition module, coil, spark plugs and wires
4. Fuel system
Code P0302: Cylinder 2 misfire detected. Probable causes:
1. Control unit software in need of updating
2. Faulty PCM or ECM
3. Faulty fuel injector
4. Ignition system
5. Fuel system
Code 0304: Cylinder 4 misfire detected. Probable causes:
1. Control unit software in need of updating
2. Faulty PCM or ECM
3. Faulty fuel injector
4. Ignition system
5. Fuel system

Be sure the invoice enumerates all of these probable causes as having been checked. Also, some of the replacement parts installed earlier may be faulty.

Vehicle missing,shaking,engine light comes on

Misfire could be a number of things:
a) spark plugs - change them if used over 15K miles - inspect/regap.
b) spark plug wires - change them if over 15K miles - inspect
c) ECM (electronic control module) - test with HEI (high energy ignition) tester.

The shaking tells me that the engine is running on less than its normal compliment of cylinders - the shaking is produced by the imbalance caused in the engine by one (or more) cylinder(s)
not firing at all.

The "Check Engine" light probably is coming on due the the misfire condition. Go to Pep Boys or
Advance Auto Pats, where they'll tell you (free) your codes causing the "Check Engine' light to be
lit - the code coming from your truck's computer will probably be one or more of:
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder misfire detected
P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire detected
P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire detected
P0303 - Cylinder 3 misfire detected
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire detected
P0305 - Cylinder 5 misfire detected
P0306 - Cylinder 6 misfire detected
P0307 - Cylinder 7 misfire detected
P0308 - Cylinder 8 misfire detected
P0313 - Misfire detected with low fuel

My 2003 Kia Sorento 6 cyl. 3.5L wont start, check engine light camae on a month ago has been using a ton of fuel and my friend ran the code and it came up misfire on cylinder 5. Due to budget contraints as...

cylinder 5 is on the passenger side and is the one closest to the firewall. you will need 10mm, 12mm, 14mm wrenches and sockets. the plug wire for cylinder 5 runs all the way to the other side of the engine to a coil that sits on top of an even numbered cylinder(not sure which one off the top of my head). how much fuel? do you know the long term fuel trim value? i have seen leaking injectors just not very often.

Skippng and misfire on cylinder # 4. How do you know if it is a fuel injector or a coilpac? Is there a way to test either or both? Since the each coilpac is for a dual cylinder should you get a dual...

Fuel injector should 'click' when working, and a fuel injector tester can light when a signal comes from the computer.

Coilpack for dual cylinder can be switched around to see if the misfire follows the coilpack in question when codes are cleared and it is rescanned.

Engine runs fine when started, put it in reverse and it starts to

probably neither. You should do a compression check, and check your transmission fluid for dicoloration and metal shavings.
