Dash lights go off for weeks, then pops back on for a day.
Dash lights started going off when I turned on the lights, or when it was dark enough for the sensor to turn them on. Then they'd come back on for a period of time. They finally went off for 2 years. One night while driving they came back on - what a surprise! but they were off the next time we drove it.

Your battery is not charged and gets drained constantly, dome lights doesn't take much voltage to be lit. Get a voltmeter and check on the battery. Engine off it should be all charged up and 12V ish. Try to start your engine, should be 13-14v charging, if not, then it is your alternator not charging or SOMEHOW your battery doesn't receive enough charging from the alternator.
When you turn on the headlight while engine is running and died off because the alternator some how couldn't supply enough current to power both headlights and motor ignition system
Get your alternator tested, before that all connections between alternator and battery is NOT LOOSE, or broken or damaged. Then go to auto electrician. Then sort out your fuses later.
Sounds like the connection behind the instrument cluster is loose, i had a customer with the same problem only on a 2012 camry and it turned out to be the connection on the cluster. I just adjusted the tension on the connection by bending the contact pins a little.
the battery says 12 volts but may be dropping to 4 or 5 under a load...i would suggest jumpstarting the car and see what happens.the battery should read in the high 12 volts and not less than 9.5 under cranking. the dash lights go out on your car when starting, and the alarm will go off ,and disable the ignition if the voltage is too low in cranking the car because the computer will shut it down and activate the anti theft.....check your battery posts are tight. best of luck
look on the left of dash for the switch you turn your interior lights on turn it see if your dash light will brighten.turn up enough brighten dash lights. dont turn until it stop or your interior light will stay on.
There is an ambient light sensor located on you dash that tells your light control module to turn the headlights on when it gets dark enough. If the sensor has gone bad, the feature will no longer work. You will need to have the LCM (light control module) scanned for codes to see what the fault is. Once we know what the code is we can go from there to fix the issue. Let me know. Regards,
