It's a manual transmission, then? If it is, your clutch is not working. You need to check at the transmission's bell housing to see if the clutch pedal being depressed causes the clutch fork to move-either forward or backward, it should move about an inch with the pedal pushed to the floor.. The clutch pedal will either be cable operated, or it will be a hydraulic clutch with a clutch master cylinder on the firewall, and a steel tube going down to the bell housing, where a small "slave cylinder" operates the clutch fork.
If you see the clutch fork move a fair amount, at least an inch, then you probably need a new clutch disc and pressure plate. A clutch job means removing the transmission to replace the clutch.
If the clutch fork does not move, either the cable has too much slack-for cable operated clutches, or the hydraulic unit has a problem-for hydraulic operated clutches. One of your hydraulic cylinders may be bad, either the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder.
The focus clutch system is hydraulic therefor, if no movement is possible at all it is most likely that there is something at the pedal causing this. Get down there with a good light and look if the pedal swivel pin did not come out or is partially out, a foreign object that got stuck in the top movement area of the pedal ect. If there is nothing found it can be the clutch master cylinder that need repair/ overhaul.
Clutch bleeding on hydraulic slave cylinders are done in the exact same method as regular hydraulic brakes. If the slave cylinder has a separate reservoir, make sure it is above "MINIMUM" at all times. If it does not have a separate reservoir, then it works together with the master cylinder for the brakes, make sure that one is above minimum too. Pump the clutch pedal a couple of times (note you will rarely feel any resistance in the pedal), hold the pedal down, and have someone open the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder. Close it when no more fluid comes out with pressure, then rinse and repeat until the clutch pedal feels ok.
This should be a Warranty repair. Some of the clutches use a hydraulic assist which multiplies the force of your footstep to make the clutch easy to operate. Sometimes it is called a "slave cylinder" and when the fluid leaks out you get no assist. Take it in, you may get a new clutch if the slipping is not cured by replacing the cylinder.
I guess the clutch system must be a hydraulic one, check the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder if they are functioning.
If they are thn theres a problem with the clutch pressure plate, if thts so , you will have to drop the gear box to replace it and its adviseable to replac e the pro-kit...consisting of Clutch pressure plate, clutch plate and release bearing.
if the clutch is still working then it could be the clutch spring which has come off or snapped because it is very old. some cars have hydraulic clutch systems but i would think that yours is a spring. look in the footwell up the pedal and you may see a spring which has come off.
