Question about 2000 Jaguar S-Type
I have an S-Type Jag (2000) The car has suddenly started to idle roughly, and has very low power. I changed the air filter (very dirty) and squirted contact cleaner on the Mass Air Flow sensor, but no better.
The engine check light flashes on occasionally but not constant.
The exhaust is always a little steamy, but when no power and foot down - clouds of steam!.
No other warning lights. Coolant level OK, no Mayo in the oil, oil level OK
Is it worth replacing the MAF sensor (95 quid plus VAT) or is there another possible culprit?
The answer was the plug top coils. The plugs and coils were replaced and the car is fine. The steam was not steam - it was white smoke from the catalytic converters. No mayo in the oil and no coolant level drop should have eliminated the head gasket. The steam turned out to be a red herring.

When your getting clouds of steam from your exhaust that is a good tell tell sign that you blew a head gasket
