I'm not sure I have an answer to your question, but I, too, have a 2002 Rodeo and I think the transmission is slipping. However, when I bought the Rodeo it came with a 10yr/120,000 mile powertrain warranty. Maybe your is under warranty too.

I am in the same boat, today I am dumping the fluid and changing the filter, I don't know if it will fix a slipping tranny, but I'm going to try. I 'll let you know what happens, 1994, 240,000 miles, Just dragged my brothers Subaru home from Atlanta, 400 miles, with my Rodeo, caused the transmission to slip.

I have a 2001 that the trans is slipping, would the powertrain warranty cover that?

  • j578pe21 May 14, 2009

I have a 1996 Isuzu with 128k on the odometer. I've done the trans flush in the past, but I think since its been sitting in my garage maybe some of the sensors went bad as it did with my alternator. I went to a trans specialist and of course he said my trans was bad. I still think it might be a sensor since it wasent doing this before.

We had the same problem with a 2002 Rodeo. The transmission must be replaced. But keep in mind the Powertrain Warranty (yes this does cover the transmission) on 2000-2003 Rodeo's is 10yr/120,000 miles. Call 800-255-6727 with your vin# and they will verify. Good luck!

I have a 2002 Rodeo and just had the transmission leak fixed, but my truck is jumping and jerking and seems like it is stuck in gear. I don't see anything leaking and tired of taking it to the dealer so what could be my problem.

I had this problem with my transmission slipping. I took it to the dealer and it was 2 quarts low on transmission fluid. They filled it and it was fine again. I never got an answer as to where the fluid had gone. There was no evidence of a leak.

The transmission is a GM design, it may be leaking from the modulation cover, on the right side, when low they will shift funny and act up, to fill / check, you need to be underneath, and it must be idling, on the oilman, remove the drain pan drain plug, there are two, open the higher one, if it drains a bunch, it's the wrong one, choose the second, it will allow you to pump ATF into it, when it quits dripping out, it's full. The idea, was the trans, comes from the factory with all the oil it will ever need. Issue is these are well build trucks, and will go a great distance, so it's important to service them .an oil change place can do this service.

1994 Isuzu Rodeo, One year later, I have driven the rodeo all year, with a slipping tranny, drivable, but no more wheel stands or burn outs. Just last week it gave up the ghost. I went out today and bought another truck for the tranny, Got it home and the got the filthy beast almost out when the cold garage floor got to me. I don't know if It will work or not, but I got a lot of parts for sale!!!

A follow up to the slipping tranny problem plagueing rodeos, (spell check) after trying numerous TCM, ECM, etc, finding scan plugs and checking all that. I tore apart the extra tranny I have, the bottom of it contains everything you need to replace, except for the clutches, so the slipping tranny cannot be done without removing it from the truck. But the one that won't shift, yes, pull the pan, dump the oil, drop the valve body. Watch out for the check balls!!! Get the gaskets and filter locally, and then buy the shift solenoids, they can be replaced on the bench easily, Cost about $50 each. That is where I am at right now. Will give you an update when I get it back together.

Update on the slipping tranny. I just got the solenoids the other day, I haven't dropped the other pan yet to fix, but I'm working on it. This has to do with the dealer,? What dealer?? there is no more Isuzu, they pulled out of North America. There is a place in Jacksonville that bought a bunch of parts. But the dealers around here are gone. Warranty?? I don't think so, they left with a big lawsuit on their hands. This is what the old dealer told me, when he was trying to cover his Isuzu sign.

Well, here it June ,2010, and I just got the transmission filled back up with oil. Guess what, didn't work. So I am back to square one, but let me tell you what happened. My white truck is real nice, looks new, 250,000 miles, runs great, that is the one with the slipping transmission, that finally died on me, I bought a green truck for the transmission, but it is real good shape, so Instead of tearing that one apart, I just swapped the tags, Then I found a red truck, with a bad knock in the motor and a supposedly good tranny, I dragged it home with the green truck, So I yanked the tranny out of the red truck, looks good, it hangs in the garage like a deer for 2 months while I hunt down parts. Never stopped dripping oil. OK, got the white truck in the garage for the big swap, Not decided yet yet which one is getting the new shift solenoids yet, the red tranny or the white one, remember the white one slips, the red one doesn't, pulled the pan on the white one and out comes mud, yuch, solid crud and clutch, and it stinks. and the magnet looks like a doughnut! So, that determined the next move, I put all the parts in the red tarnny, pulled the white tranny out, put in the red one, filled it up with 8 qts fluid, took off down the road, no drive, would **** in low but go and shift to 2nd, no high gear. Then it would start in drive but it was in 4th gear and you had to stomp on it to get it going, the transmission light was off. By the time I got back to the shop the tranny light was on and here I am , back to square one. So now, my next move is to pull the pan, again, pull the valve body, check the solenoids, check balls, replace the band driver, whatever it is, put that back, then change out the other solenoids in the secondary case. And then purge the fluid. And I will keep you posted. Only been 5 months since I got the red truck. I sold all the parts off it and then sold the truck for more than I paid for it. So, It might have a bad tranny, but....

How many quARTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUIDDOES MY 2002 ISUZU RODEO TAKE

which transmission,??? we just cant guess that.
M/T 6.2 pints
or A/T 18.2 pints totally dismantled only. 9.1 quarts.
2wd, 4wd
let me say that if a A/T YOU NEED TO READ the manual.
alldata.com
is this question under the assumption that pulling the drain gets it all out. IT WILL NOT. not even 1/3. comes out.
maybe 3 of 9 qrts/ the clutch holds most. and does not free drain.

just get the transmission a full flush job and call it done.
do ask questions, the above can not be answered until we know what your are attempting...... (removing the clutch? or valve body or?)

I'm having transmission problems on my 2002 Isuzu rodeo first gear is really slow but as soon as it gets to second and up its ok.

If that is an automatic & if the fluid has not been
changed every 3 years since it was new, then it's
done,pull it & rebuild it

Sounds like it is slipping in first gear, the fluid should
smell bad as well

How doI add transmission fluid to my 2002 Rodeo

This has to be done from underneath the vehicle, and you have to pump it in. Not an easy task. This was Isuzu's bright idea. Don't get me wrong, I had a 00 Rodeo, and loved it. Had to do the same thing with the transmission. It is easier to take it to someone, but if you cannot, then go to the auto parts store, buy a pump, some transmission fluid, and put it in. I believe that the car has to be running, and the transmission has to be in neutral to add the fluid.

I have 115,00 miles on my Isuzu Rodeo. When I

It can never hurt to have the tranny flushed and good fluid put in there. If it had issues and was run low on fluid for too long I hope it did not do some damage. Absolutely get it flushed and see if that does the trick. Doesn't matter how many miles really. Dont just keep it topped off, the fluid that's in there now may have picked up some debris and needs to be changed. Hope it helps!
