A screw driver won't do anything to help. Wondering if there is a child safety latch installed or something.

My husband went outside to warm the car but after he opened the door. The latch got stuck and the door would not close. He then opened the passengers side to get and idea of what it should look like so he could try to fix the driver's side and now that latch is stuck. This happened yesterday. What do we do?

Door won't close

You have probably bumped the latch and caused it to close. Look at the latch in the door. The latch has a locking arm that is down when in the locked position and up at the top when in the open position. If the arm is down in the center of the latch opening of the door push the arm upward until it locks in place.(sometimes you have to activate the latch handle/button on the outside of the door while pushing the arm upward)

When I close the door of my 2000 Sunfire Pontiac the door doesn't stay closed. On the side of the door the mechanism is not working. I noticed 3 screws hold this part in. How do you go about replacing...

before trying to replace this see if you can manually UN latch it using a screwdriver or something like that where the latch is there is a hook like that strikes the pin or loop on car post but on the door where the3 screws-are in the jam holding the door Handel as if you are opening it carefully at same time try to slid the latch to receive the pin

The locking mechanism on the rear passenger door isnt working. The door will close but the metal catch will not lock. How do i repair?

I have seen some times the latch assemblys get rusty or dirty and the inside or outside door handles are pulled and the latch assembly siezes in the open position not allowing the door to latch closed..but this may not be the case .. check to see also if the child lock switch position is not stuck in the halfway position, also check if the latch has not flipped to the close position before the door was closed thus jamming the striker latch..this can be fixed by pulling the catch out while opening the door handle..hope this helps good luck...
