No it not a common problem, this engine is an INTERFERNCE ENGINE, which means, when camshaft bind and you need to fine out why it bind did you loose oil pressure or timing belt breaks, piston's will hit cylinder head valve's.Land Rover recommends replacement of timing belt every 72,000 mile's.
how did the cam shaft failed? is there a spark on the plugs for the cylinders than are not firing? did you have a timing belt failour? if so you may have damage valves or pistons, do a compression test on the engine to know condition of cylinders
