1984 Chevy Caprice with a 305, new alt and batter, but battery isnt charging,,

Not enough information to answer. Need manufacturer, year, model, and engine size in order to answer the question. Without the above info, all I can say is that you may have a problem with a fuse or fusible link.

Have a 97 chevy lumina new battery alternater tested it was good why is battery not charging

  • first thing when you say the batt is not charging so is it going dead when you run the car and shut it off and it needs a boost to get it going again? if so your answer hands down is the alt is no good or like i say further down before you replace anything alright.!!
  • Try these items just because a alt tested good doesn't mean its a good one same goes for the battery here don't ever count on a test being good until you have tried things without these first.
  • one way with the battery is try it for a day or 2 on another car and test the battery with a volt meter if it is a Walmart battery take it back and get a new 1 (for sure) it is a hit and miss with these 1 works good for a week and then its shot and the other one might/not last longer you get what you pay for there??
  • i had one at one time tested great so i went on only to find out it was yes indeed the alt i would replace this but first try cleaning the battery terminals and i mean cleaning them not just using a cloth but a wire brush and look for the fuse able link going to the positive term and see if this has any corrosion on or around it you want to look at the entire charging system for loose grounds these can be hard to spot but look for anything orange around a bolt nut etc orange means its getting moisture around it(positive)
  • anything orange and some rust colored dust means only 1 thing it is shorting out or worn out (replace) but in the end i would try a new alt because this does sound like it if not anything i have mentioned here hope this helps i will be around for a bit but always get these messages from fix ya so don't hesitate to get back to me doesn't mean i will always be at my computer but i try my best to help as many folks as i can thanks and don't get rid of that car it is going to be one of the best cars you will ever buy or own and one of the best Chevy ever made i still own 2 and they run like pardon me they are better than a new car if kept up on oil changes and repairs and the best on gas anywhere..
  • thanks

Battery light and engine whine on Honda pilot

no web bunny can answer that, he cant touch it, see it, hear it or do tests.
my best guess. is the Alternator front bearing is burned to a crips
whines and the bouncing shaft beat the slip ring brushes inside
to dead.
bad ALT,
or the belt fell off, and is dangling inside and is touching a pulley and making racket.
open the hood, have any mech. look there, see if the belt is bad
or the front bearing on the ALT is toast
i use a $5 sethoscope (Dr. like) and listen, yup, bearing is screaming
all in 3 min. flat.

My alternator wont come out

many cars, the Alt just dont come right out.
even with all 3 pivots removed.
The FSM covers this on all cars.
but in your case, if all the pivots are off. and you cant get it out.
then something is in the way. you never said what it hit.

if really serious. alldata.com and the factory FSM covers this.
if you failed to remove all bolts from the ALT , say which one
is hard to remove, and we can answer that.
I can not see what you are doing right or wrong, so must guess.
see?
some cars have and EVAP canistor in the way of the ALT.
and must be removed
other have other things and varies by op tons, engine options, and AC options, etc. what engine., got AC?

2003 kia sedona wont charge battery with new alternator

well are you sure that you have a good or it just shows the correct amount of voltage. which that should 12.6 volts for a fully charged battery. to actually answer your question, (assuming)
you do have a good battery your alt. shouldn't keep it from cranking unless it is locked up, but you would use a digital volt meter and select the d.c. volts setting touch the red (positive lead) to the red (positive post) on the battery and the ground ( black lead ) to the ground terminal on the battery (negative post). it should read very close to 14 volts. if not check to see if you are getting voltage to your alt. by using your volt meter to test the power wire going to your alt. it will be the one on the backside of your alt with a protective boot over it. with your volt meter still set on dc volts touch your black lead lead to a good ground and your red lead to your power wire going to your alt. it should have 12 volts there. if not check your fuses. if your car clicks when you try to start it then you may have a bad battery connection. dirty terminals with corrosion built up on them will do the same thing. also a starter that is bad will click because the bendix can't kick out to engage the flywheel to turn your engine over. well hope i answered your question and then some.

My alt went bad in my 2001 focus ZX3, resulting in a dead battery, changed the alt. and now that its charging its misfiring and smells like rotten eggs, it ran perfect before, any answers?

The rotten egg smell is a dead giveaway that your catalatic converter is bad. This could also be the cause of your misfirie condition. Take to your mechanic to have the converter replaced and this should correct your problem.

I have a 2002 145 alternator and i want to put it in my 1993 suburban but the wire are not the same can you tell me how to chance the wiring to fit it ?

why not just buy a 145 amp alt for your 93 burban so as not to f up the electrical system. best bet is to get a wiring digram for both alts to see if the two systems are compatible
