Question about 1998 Chevrolet K1500

2 Answers

Won't start I have a 1998 chevy c1500 pickup with a 4.3L engine. It will turn over but will not fire up. I have checked the fuel pressure, 52 psi, checked spark at both the coil and at the plugs, have good spark. I checked the compression, it was also fine. Air filter was just replaced about two months ago. It's had a major tune up at the same time, plugs, wires, filters, etc. It's getting cold out now and was having a hard time starting it. I replaced the battery because it was about four years old about six months ago. Today I went outside to start it and just will not fire up at all. I even used some starter fluid and still will not start. I'm stuck and don't know what it could be. I was thinking maybe it could be the ignition module but not sure. Could someone please help me out. Thanks

The first thing i would do is put a new ignition control module on it. If that doesnt fix it, some of the newer model vehicles have made it so the power control module (pcm or brain) has to be reset everytime you change the battery. I hope that helps you out.

Does the security light on the dash go out. do you have spark at all wires, are there any codes in the computer, if you have spark at all wire and the security light gos out, it sounds like the crank sensor.

My 98 chevy truck, has had power surging problems while driving, and now will not start

check for fuel pressure. not sure what engine you have but if its the 4.3 litre your fuel pressure should be 50-60 psi.

2000 chevy tahoe z71 5.7 v-8 won't start. Turns over and fires but will not start. Check fuel pressure and it's 55 psi. WHat's next?

When you say it fires, are you checking for spark at the plugs ?
In most cases you have to figure out if it is spark, fuel, or compression to proceed. A mechanic would also check the computer for trouble codes but you would need a scanner or code reader to do that.

94 gmc sierra 4.3 v6 manual, won't turn over, can hear fuel pump start when accessories turned on..won't fire, girl who needs help

The first thing I would check is fuel pressure. This type of fuel injection requires a minimum fuel pressure in order to operate. If fuel pressure is as little as one psi below minimum the vehicle will not start. You can try squirting a couple of shots of carb spray into the air snorkel while somebody cranks the engine over. If the engine starts and then dies you now you fpdeffinetely have a fuel issue. If the engine still won't start check for spark. Let me know what you find. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

1998 2500 chevy wont start unless i pour fuel in throtle body when engine is cold

Check your fuel pump pressure, it is probably down in the 50 lb range and it requires a bit above that to start. Once it starts it will run on that pressure. This is a chronic problem with these, my 1998 2500 was a GMC but it's the same vehicle. I put 385,000 miles on it with no engine or transmission trouble but I was on fuel pump number six when I sold it.

I have a 98 s-10 it wont start it has 40 to 45 pounds of pressure & its firing getting gas but wont run i pulled the fuel pump relay n it try to run i sprayed it with start fluid it hits but if i put...

If this truck has the 4.3L vortec motor it will not start with 40-45 PSI fuel Pressure.Thius engine requires approx. 56 PSI fuel pressure or it will not start. The fuel pump more than likely needs to be replaced this is a common problem with the 4.3L vortec engine.Change the fuel pump and your problems will be solved.

Starts and dies, starts and dies

Possible fuel pressure regulator. Altho are u sure you're getting good spark? More testing is needed here. Need to know what your fuel pressure is with "key on engine off" and then "key on, engine ON"...then turn key off and watch pressure bleed down. Bleed down should not fall below 30 psi.
