Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

Chevolet Cavalier : Starter or Ignition

This car will start sometimes. I check the battery and it was fine. I had a auto shop check the car and they said a wire was loose. However, the next day it did not start again. I found a broken ground wire that goes to the stater body. I fix it and the car started up again! Thirty minutes later, the car would not start again.

Did you connect it tight. So there would be no current leak ? Make sure that all the wires are connected good and tight using a good wire clamp.if the starter runs sluggish, it may be your starter going bad. But I think it is still a leak on the connection.

My 2004 Chevolet Cavalier was running and started yesterday, but the next day would not start. It would turn over, but not start or run. Just run my battery down, started over, over

Spray a bit of carb cleaner in the air boot, off air filter housing to check if fuel pump went dead. Would be a good idea to check all fuses.

After driving the car and turning off ignition, the car sometimes will refuse to start. I need to recharge the battery. When the battery is checked it is good. this has happened twice since June 19,1010

Assuming you don't have loose or dirty connections to the battery, then it is most likely your starter. Some auto parts stores can test it on the car. I had the same problem a few years ago, it would start fine when cold but if it sat less than about an hour, it would act like a dead battery, but would jumpstart fine. I had replaced the starter only about a year before, so I was sure it was OK. Ended up replacing both battery and alternator before finally replacing the starter.
When the starter is hot, it is not as strong.

If it won't start after sitting for a day or two, sometimes it is a trunk or dome light that stays on and drains the battery, but that is not your problem.

My 1999 nissan altima won't start, no crank, not even a click. All light are ok, stereo, wiper, etc. battery is only months old. I pulled out the starter, have it tested at Advance Auto Parts and it worked...

Keep it simple, start with the fuse...put car in neutral see if it starts(neutral safety switch) , then check for corrosion on your starter relay by removing all connections one at a time and lightly rubbing them with sandpaper or a wire brush. You can purchase "purple goop" to cover electrical connections to keep this from occuring.

Won't start when cranked

It has to be an electrical problem. Check battery terminals to ensure that they are tight and are not corroded, also check the ignition switch, also check starter.

1996 cavalier will not crank

when it wont crank, you will need a test lite to ck the small wire at starter for a 12 volt signal when commanded to start by the key. also make sure there is 12 volts from battery going to larger wire on starter. if so and still wont crank, starter replacement is probable. (assuming grounds are clean) they can be very intermittent. another quick test would be while trying to start, holding key in start position, rap lightly on starter with hammer to see if it kicks, if so, replace starter.
