Re: corolla ve 1999 problem to accelerate check engine on
You may want to try checking the gas filter because my car also had that problem and it was the gasoline filter that had somehow got water in it and was completly damaged. I'm not a complete expert but I'm only basing myself on what my car had that did exactly the same thing as yours.

This is an engine/ carburation problem, it cant be anything else. The ECU may have a fault or a crank sensor is playing up or the fuel pump or an air flow meter or throttle switches. Take it to someone with engine diagnostic equipment not transmission or brakes.
HI, Wow! Glad you both came out of it unhurt. What I think happened is that one or more of you engine mounts failed. When you punch the gas pedal on a car with a failed engine mount. The engine will twist in the opposite direction of the torque being created in the drive train. When you punch it hard, while passing, the engine will twist enough to pinch the gas pedal linkage against the chassis wall, locking down. DON'T DRIVE IT, EVEN IF SLOWLY. GET IT TOWED. Installing mounts is not a very difficult job, so you can, if you want, do it yourself. Hope the rest of your New Year has no more excitement and adventure that you don't want. Happy New Year, Best Regards, Mark
check engine light is on? if yes, You need an OBD scanner to dianose the problem. if no, its a mechanical problem. 1st, check if their is a vacuum leaks using the carburator cleaner to spray all over the emission, carburator, the vacuum lines if the idle going up you found the leak, now if still don't work, check if the fuel injector if not failing, check also the fuel filter and cracks on the exchaust manifold.
You can try to reset the throttle body by opening the hood and drivers door then turning your key to the accessory position. You will hear the throttle body whir and click. It may take up to two minutes. Afterward, the car will relearn your habit of driving and adjust accordingly.
