Question about 1994 Ford Thunderbird

1 Answer

No tail lights no brake lights no turn signals

My tail lights brake lights and turn signals and blinkers do not work at all..it is not a fuse and i have replaced the fuses and also the turn signal switch in the steering wheel. The are still not working. for awhile all rear lights would work until you turn on the headlights then they would not work. now they dont work at all. I dont know what else it could be. I hooked up a new stereo and i have the constant wire connected to the cig lighter. is there a chance that that could be causing it. I need some help with this issue please.

Why my tail lights don't work but my brakes and turn signals still work

some bulbs have dual filaments in them. One for tail lights and the other for brake/blinker lights.
Many times one element will burn out but the other will still work.

Try replacing the bulbs.....assuming you have already checked the fuse for the brake lights. (many cars have the stop and back up lights on the same fuse)

Turn signals not working

Suspect the multi-function switch. (turnsignal) these fail a lot.

My brake lights and rear blinkers are not working, I checked light bulbs (tail lights work) and fuses. what next

typically with gm the brake light and turn signals work on the same filament, so just because the tail lights come on does not mean that the bulb is not burned out. try simply replacing the bulbs.

Running lights work but no blinkers or brake lights. Changed fuses and bulbs no luck

I'm inclined to believe it is the turn signal switch. When you select left or right, the brake light is removed from that side, and the flasher is connected to the bulb instead, making the brake light on that side flash as the indication that you plan to turn. You have lost everything, but the simple answers check out.

If you have lost signals, brake lights and tail lights, then it is more likely that the ground supplied to the bulbs is not working, since the tail lights share noting in common with the brakes lights and turn signals but ground.

If the tail lights work, the fact that the brake lights and rear turn signals share that switch starts to look meaningful — even more so if the front turn signals also don't work. But the front signals and the rear signals use different circuitry in the switch, so it would be something more mechanical in the switch than electrical in that case.

Rear tail lights not working

If both tail lights are not working it is likely to be a fuse or bad connection under the hood or a connector at the back see if you can trace the wires to a connector and see if it is dirlty or corroded.

I would guess the brake fuse ( this does not use the same fuse as the tail lights/blinkers) or the ground for the brake light bulb.
