you may have a problem with heater box. your air/mix door may have an issue. feel the knobs on the control unit. if the cold/heat know feels kinda funny from the other knobs, then thare is a problem with heater box/cables??
check fuses and relays. there is an electric motor that opens and closes a "blend air door' that switches from hot to cold. the other lights may or may not be related. Is is very possible that the plug going into the control unit has a bad connection.
I would get all the electrical schematics and then look for problems like blown fuses affecting the areas you are describing. Then systematically troubleshoot the wiring. Simple. Now, I am looking for the mentioned schematics on the web. I just bought (2010-01-28) a 2005 Malibu Maxx, and can't wait to have it ready for pickup in 2 days...
sounds like the cable connecting the knob to the blend door came off or broke or worst case blend door broke -this is bad because it is a big box behind the radio and dash. the whole big thing has to come out and this means the whole dash board has to come out. Is the knob real stiff to turn or does it turn real easly like there is nothing connected to it or does it feel normal. Im not exactly sure if sentras heater core boxes are cable driven or if they are moterized by an actuator. usually if they are motorized you can hear a clicking noise coming from the dash area. sometimes you can change the actuators without taking the whole dash out
When I worked at the dealership I seen alot of these knobs crack and break and the metal retainer stay on the control shaft, you have to remove retainer and either puchase a new knobat the dealership or glue the retainer back in the knob.
hI THEGROVE45, did you ever get this problem fixed. I have the same problem, and took it into the dealership, they told me they would have to replace the whole unit, and told me the light inside there was not a light bulb but a wand lit up with LED.
The stock radio system is three pieces. You have the outer display, behind that is the audio circuit board, and behind that is the actual radio, which looks like a plain square silver box. The shifter knob should have a piece on the bottom that snaps in. That piece slides down and there is a gold cotter pin that holds the shifter knob on. Remove the cotter pin with a small screwdriver and the knob will lift off. In order to remove the radio you have to remove the shifter knob, the console trim in front of the arm rest, and the radio trim should just unsnap and come out. If you are wanting to install a aftermarket radio, I would consult with a car audio store as to what is involved with this installation, because you are likely to get in over your head.
My 05 sentra with 79k miles heat will warm up and then get cold after a mile of driving, we have tried to get the air pocket out, the mechanic stated he thought it could be a blown head gasket, another mechanic said it was a bad heater core. Any advice would be appreciated.
