if the car does not shift out of park, check all your fuses first, try checking the brake fuse first, when you step on the brake pedal it releases the shifter, if it doesnt shift into the gears you most likely blew a fuse
If the floor shift lever wont move out of park, there foot brake lock that prevents it from moving until you depress the brake pedal and pull it out of park. I think the release is vacuum operated so try depressing the brake pedal a few time while trying to release. TerBo
1993 nissan altima on vary hot days the car stalles in gear when letting off the brakes. feels like it is in two gears or it is going in to converter lock up.this will happen severa times. note i un pluged the 5 wire harness that leads to the trans and it will drive out but shifts late.
Ithink it is the TCM
There's a lockout that will only let you put it in gear when you press the brake pedal.
Start the car, step on the brake (hard) without touching the shifter, then try to put it in gear. If it still won't let you out of park, then the brake sensor switch is broken. It's a simple switch, available at any basic auto parts store (PepBoys/Checker/Autozone) but it's a pain in the neck to replace.
