Question about 1981 Ford F 100

Need fuel/air settings for 4150 holley 600cfm. from seat.

Car stumbles at complete stop and having problem with choke. was electric but going manuel and choke don't work properly.deacrease instead of increase excel.

Depends where the timing is set and you really just have to play with them until you get the rigght settings

Sounds to me like you have the choke closing on you. Is it a electric choke on it? If it is closing it will do that. Loosen the screws on the round plastic canister and turn it till the choke flap starts to open farther. Keep adjusting it till it stops closing. There should have been instructions on choke adjustment with the new carb. If not do a search on google for Holley 600 choke adjustment.

The good thing about a Holley carb is they can be custom built to just about any engine.
The bad thing about Holley carbs is you can work on it for months trying to get everything adjusted right.
You'll have to figure out if it is a lack of fuel or too much air coming in.
The accelerator pump travel can be adjusted up or down as well as the power valve.

Start with the idle needle screw first, the idle mixture screw. Seat it all the way in, first-don't overtighten and damage it, just seat it lightly, and back out two full turns. Run the engine and set the adjustment by ear to get your best lean idle: start turning the screw in (clockwise) 1/8 or 1/4 turn at a time till engine stumbles, dies, or runs rough. Keep the engine running, and turn screw out (counterclockwise) a little at a time till you hear the idle dropping. Now between those two settings is your best lean idle. Turn the screw in, a little at a time and wait for engine to respond, tiill you get the highest idle speed. Now set the other idle screw, curb idle, to the idle setting for your truck, probably about 700 rpm. You can move back and forth between the screws to get the best steady idle. Just don't over do it on the idle mixture screw.

Depending upon which bowl design you have on yours, you need to check the float level. There should be a brass sight plug on the right side of each bowl. To adjust, remove one plug, loosen the screw on the top of the bowl and turn the 5/8" nut that surrounds the screw. BE AWARE...when you make this adjustment, fuel will squirt from the screw you loosened, so you need to have a rag nearby to keep everything dry. Fuel will also spill from the sight plug hole 'till it's properly adjusted. Turning the nut clockwise lowers the level, ccw raises it. If you cannot stop the flooding, you will need to remove the bowl and clean it out. You can get a complete rebuild kit from Holley (you'll need the number stamped on the front of the air horn). The kit includes new needle and seat valves, power valves and all necessary gaskets. Always use a new filter to prevent new crud from ruining your work.
If you have bad or questionable ignition wires, replace them before attempting adjustment. Float adjustment is done on a level surface with the engine running.

That would be a Holley, probably model 4160 carb on it. You need to do a little detective work on this. You either need to adjust the choke or find out where the fuel is going after 12 hours.

First, when the engine is running check the Intake and Carburetor gaskets for vacuum leaks. Also spray by the Vacuum reserve canister (Like a coffee can) with either Choke cleaner or a water mist. Either way the RPM will change if you have a Vacuum leak. Fix the vacuum leak if you find one. The engine needs Vacuum to draw in the fuel for a cold start. There are vacuum ports with gaskets (Hidden until disassembled) where the Choke housing attaches to the main block of the Carburetor. A leak here will mess up the tiny piston inside the Choke. (Its under the Black cover and operates the stepup for cold starts).

The black choke dial should be set for 2 marks rich. You should not need excess force on the choke flap to unload it. The choke flap should maintain an opening about 2 credit cards thick measured between flap and carb housing. To get this space you bend the rod pushing the choke flap. This should help the choke work better.

If this does not help, on the next 12 hour interval check for fuel by taking off the strainer on the Carb inlet and remove the line from the carb to the pump. If the fuel line is dry you are losing the Prime to the pump. You must have either a bad pump or a hole in the fuel line from the tank.

Would like to know what you found. The Power pump inside the front bowl of your Holley has a number and you can go to a Holley website to see if it is correct for your truck. The fuel inside the front bowl of your Holley should be enough start the truck. Even if the bowl went dry overnight, the fuel pump would replenish the supply well before 20 to 50 pumps.

Electric fuel pump most likely has too much pressure for the carb. AFAIK, the Holley 4150/60 & 4165/75 should each demand the usual 4.7-5.3 PSI (4.7 @ idle, 5.3 @ max RPMs), so even the Holley red pump would need some restriction from a regulator. If you want this to be adjusted to its best efficiency, you need to have a fuel pressure gauge installed temporarily, if not on the regulator like I have on my Scout II. FWIW, the regulator I have installed is the Mallory 4307M from CenturyPerformance.com, Summitracing.com, Jegs.com, etc.

A bad Needle & Seat will do this also, or debris stuck between the Needle and the Seat. This is where light tapping on the bowl helps, but it's best to run the fuel out of the bowl a few times and then the volume flow, or quick filling of the bowl, should loosen up the debris.

You also could have set he fuel float too high. What model carb, the ones I mentioned above (AKA Holley Modular Carbs)? If so, then Holley's site has a tech center & instructions on setting the float(s). www.holley.com

Set the floats carefully and slowly/gradually. Make sure the lock screw is always loose enough before turning the adjustment nut. If you strip out the bowl's threads on an older carb, you'll beat hell finding a replacement. 1/12 turn = 1/32" of fuel height IIRC. You set the fuel level, with pump running (wrap a rag around the carb so gas doesn't leak onto the manifold!!!) so the fuel is just starting to dip out of the "peep-hole" in the side of the float. Removal of the peep/seep-hole screw/plug is necessary first. Clockwise rotation of the nut lowers fuel level IIRC and counter raises fuel level. Again, please check their website. Most people get discouraged when dealing with the Holley Modular Carbs, but they are the simplest and the best carbs on the market. Even if 30+ years old.

Back in my racing days,I used Jacobs Electronic high voltage spark electronic box.

Believe it of not the engineer is calling for COPPER plugs!

Everyone know Platinum will last but copper is still the best conductor.

Try a cheap set of Champion or Autolite and see what happen.

Fuel pressure

CFM requirement for the Holley carb.
Try a an without the air filter and see is it still choke at 5,500 rpm.
