There should be a hood release inside the car, drivers side either on the floor or under the dash. Pop it and then release the lever under the hood about in the middle of the front of the hood.
the transmission fluid on the B230f engine with automatic transmission (Volvo 240, 740, 940), goes into the filler neck with the large yellow dipstick. it is located about 5 inches below the oil dipstick. good luck :)
CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID.IF LOOKS BLACK HAS A BURNT SMELL .CHANGE FLUID + FILTER.IF FLUID CHANGE DONT HELP.YOUR SHIFT VALVES IN VALVE BODY STUCK OR SHIFT CABLE NEED ADJUSTING.WHEN YOU DO A FLUID CHANGE YOU CAN BUY A BOTTLE OF TRANSMISSION CONDITIONER IT FREE STUCK SHIFT VALVES IN VALVE BODY.I WOULD ADD 1/2 OF IT WITH NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID.DONT OVER FILL TRANSMISSION WHEN YOU ADD IT IN.
The rotor cap (i am not sure if you meant distributor cap or rotor button, but ill answer them both) on a 1989 Volvo 740 is located directly at the back of the engine block, connected to the cam shaft. it is the orange plastic device that the spark plug wires snap into. the rotor button is the orange plastic part found inside of the distributor. to get to the rotor button you would have to remove the distributor with a 8 or 10mm wrench (sorry I cant remember which), there are 3 bolts to remove. it should take less then 5mins to do this. GOOD LUCK:)
thanks! I'll take another look.
