Leave your clutch assembly bolts loose, so the clutch plate can move as needed to line it up, then tighten them after tranny fully in place. I believe most autoparts store now will lend or rent you an alignment tool if necessary. I guess I was lucky, I always seemed to find something I could use to align it by eye.

A clutch on 1996 dodge ram 2500 won't disengage but if the NV4500 trans. isn't in it will disengage just fine

When the transmission is not installed, can you rotate the input shaft? If the transmission is in neutral, you should be able to rotate the input shaft freely. If it is in gear, the output shaft should rotate also, but at a different speed than the input shaft (or in opposite direction if in reverse). If you cannot rotate the input shaft at all, there is something broken/jammed internally and the transmission will have to be rebuilt or replaced.

08 dodge Durango replaced motor but tranny bolts won't screw in but four turns want could I do? Need help asap

Does the bell housing rest tight up against the back of the motor? If so, and the bolts won't go in but four turns, you have real problems. You also haven't said whether or not you replaced the motor with one of the same size and from the same model year. This has been know to have issues. If the bell housing is NOT tight up against the motor then, if it is an auto transmission you may not have the torque converter seated properly on the input shaft. If it is a manual trans, you may not have the input shaft splines lined up to the clutch disc correctly.

Trouble shooting manual transmission problems in 88' dodge ram d50

Usually your ONLY option with a manual trans, is to
take it all apart & replace all bearings & syncros

There is no real test you can do, except shift it, with &
without the motor running & drive it

Clutch problems can cause issues, but your didn't
provide any details of any problems

Take it back

Did you not test it out--- before paying
& driving off?

Maybe the trans has some internal wear,

How do i a line a transmission to reinstall

If this is a manual transmission you must have a clutch alignment tool to install the clutch and then the splines will align with the trans input shaft. If this is an automatic trans you have to eyeball your right, left, up, down position of the trans and sometimes you can use guide bolts on each side to guide it in. Hope that helps any questions do not hesitate to ask.

Removing the transmission cooling line fron

These lines just run straight through the radiator to provide cooling. You can bypass the radiator by adding a transmission fluid cooler, during the cold weather in a pinch, a replacement transmission hose with 2 clamps can be connected between the 2 transmission lines to correct leakage, but in warm weather, the fluid suffers if it doesn't get the benefit of a cooler.

Aftermarket coolers are relatively inexpensive, especially compared to the long term benefit of keeping the fluid degrees cooler, prolonging the life of the trans.

good luck

1997 Dodge Ram 1500 ( transmission )

I also have a 97 Ram that did the same thing. First thing to do is add a trans cooler and remove the rubber lines at the radiator. If you feel the truck takes off in 2nd gear you need to replace the transducer and governor pressure switch inside the trans pan on the pass side of the valve body.
