Question about 2005 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

Oil leak I had my oil changed about four days ago. I was not told of any issues. Today I looked at my receipt and it stated oil leak noted. It did not say anything else nor did the tech mention it to me. Is this a problem I should be concerned about now? Is it something I have time to get repaired? The oil light has never come on. Is it possible that the oil filter was shot? Unfortunately, I went further than the 3000 mile recomendation. I have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata with 50,000 miles on it.

I appreciate the advice. Was told by the tech its the gasket thats between the transmission and engine. It's a small leak not to worry. It will cost a $$$$ to have fixed because the transmission will have to be pulled.

This is not the gasket, this is the mainshaft seal, small leak not abig problem, but sooner or later you have to fix it. Unfortunately it will cost you some $$$$$$$

I would talk to the tech where you had the oil changed to be certain even though it doesn't sound serious from your description.

Thanks for your reply, glad to hear it is not a serious leak.

Tip

Be Carefull When Getting an Oil Change

I have a friend who called me and said his Toyota four runner had stopped. I came to assist him to find out he just got an oil change. I look under the vehicle and there were traces of excessive oil leak. I found out that whoever did the oil change did not screw in the oil filter in and so the engine locked up. When getting an oil change before you even drive the car inspect for any oil leak with the engine idling. There are a lot on incompetent mechanics out there. Some of them are even ASE certified!! The one who told me a car will run for 3 days without oil was ASE certified, that's scary. He didn't want to be called a mechanic he said he is a technician. The place where he got the oil change is also a 24 hour shopping place and has stores all over the country ( you know which one I am talking about). I can't mention names.

I just got an oil change less than 3 weeks ago and today my engine starts knocking and my oil light is on, could that be a bad O2 sensor?

No Bad o2 But Check oil Level. How old Was The oil That Came Out? Fresh oil Will Clean Out Sludge Deposits If The oil Was'nt Changed In A Timely Manor It could Have caused leaks. also Check Drain Plug Gasket for leaks And Make Sure Oil Filter Is Correct And Tight.

Volkswagen touareg burning oil

Why would you think that?

No vehicle uses much oil at all--for over four months
& several thousand miles between oil changes

You have potentially serious oil consumption issues
or leaks

Had oil chang week ago stream of oil dwn drive when backing.out oil light on oil.

Go under the van and make sure the leak is not from the oil filter or the oil drain plug in the oil pan. Don't wait on this make them check it.

I have a 2003 Mazda Miata sport edition. I checked my oil and nothing registered I just changed it 3 months ago. I don't see any physical evidence of leakage and no black smoke from tail pipe. What could...

I just had the same problem. I bought a 04 Miata 2 days ago that had just had an oil change. When I checked the oil yesterday and nothing registered on the stick. Then today I noticed some oil on the driveway. I looked at the oil filter with the engine running and saw the leak. There is an oil cooler pick up cylinder is between the oil filter and the block. with the oil filter removed, there is a nut that is not a locking nut which can back off. I took the nut off, cleaned the rubber seal ring between the cylinder and the engine block. I put everthing back together and no more leak. If the seal ring is damaged, it costs $12 ( I Priced one today but didn't need it. This may be the problem you are having.

Had an oil change about a month ago and about 5 weeks later motor is gone. No oil light came on, no oil leaks

WELL NO OIL LEAKS.WARRANTY MIGHT COVER IT BUT YOU NEED TO SHOW ALL OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS.ALSO YOU HAVE TO USE GM MOTOR OIL LIKE 5W - 30 VALVOLINE USE GM OIL FILTERS.THEY WILL CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU BEEN KEEPING UP WITH SERVICE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE SCHEDULES.CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK SHOULD BE AT FULL MARK LINE. THE CHEVY COBALT LS LT LTZ 2.2 ENGINE HOLDS 5.0 QUARTS OF OIL WITH NEW FILTER AND CHEVY COBALT SS SC HOLDS 6.0 QUARTS WITH NEW FILTER.IF OIL LEVEL LOOK OKAY.CHECK ON INTERNET FOR ANY RECALLS OR ANY TROUBLE WITH EARLY OIL PUMP FAILURE.

Hmm with 150,000 miles i really doubt anything
It could be just a coincidence.

They could have possibly left something in the oil pan that caused the pick up tube to become blocked somewhat.

I had the oil changed and the manual transmission fluid changed 2-3 days ago. I noticed leaking today on the right front tire side. A few hours ago it died. Still has power (lights, radio) but...

I don't believe the transmission fluid being changed would have anything to do with the engine being dead. You could have a tranny with no fluid in it and the engine would still run. Wondering if your engine oil got changed correctly. I would pull out the dipstick for the engine oil and see how much is in there. If this is an error from an oil change place that has caused your engine to die because of their negligence, then you may have a legal issue on your hands. Good Luck.
