99 DODGE Durango Idle problem

My truck wont idle. I replaced the iac motor and it worked fine for a week then messed up again. I changed it again thinking it was a faulty part from the store. It worked fine for a day then messed up again. And my battery keeps getting drained.

1998 Durango will not idle


Check A.I.S./I.A.C. motor on throttle body. Known by both names, Automatic idle speed motor (AIS) Idle Air control (IAC) . Usually mounted on side of throttle body, with 2 or 3 torx screws and it's job is to adjust idle at all times as necessary, such as when AC on, turning, etc when extra load on engine, it will increase idle as needed to overcome the load and maintain proper idle speed. You can often remove the motor and clean pintle (pointed end that goes inside throttle body) with throttle body spray cleaner as well as spray inside the port (hole) that it comes out of. Sometimes this will cure the problem for quite a while, but if only for a short time, and it happens again, replace it.

'99 Dodge Durango, car shuts off after starting unless holding down gas pedal, once you let up it dies.


there is an idle control motor on the throttle body. If you pull the air tube off of the throttle body and look to the rear of the throttle butterflies you will see the passage for the air to flow through to the idle air control motor. You should also see the tip of the pintle of the IAC. Use a screw driver and carefully push/pry the pintle back into the throttle body.

If the vehicle starts and idles than remove the IAC (2 torx screws hold it to the throttle body) and clean it with some carb spray. Clean the bore that it sits in as well with carb spray.

If the pintle on the IAC looks like it has wear marks in it replace it.

This is a fairly common problem with the dodge trucks.

Every now and then it will start quiting at an idle. if you can drive with two feet you can keep it running and it wont idle in park, but then sometimes you can crank it up and it runs like brand new


Pull IAC motor off side of throttle body and spray clean it well, especially pointed part (pintle) and port it comes out of with throttle body spray cleaner. Re-install and try it. Sometimes cures it, but other times only lasts a while. If it only lasts a while and starts doing it again, replace IAC. (idle air control motor) or some refer to it as AIS. (automatic idle speed motor )

2001 durango 4.7 spudders and stalls at idle


Try pulling I A C (idle air control) motor & cleaning it good with throttle body cleaner , as well as port it came out of . These quite often get gummed up at pintle of motor (pointed part) and shaft, which cause it to stall etc on corners, under load etc. It maintains proper idle under these conditions. If it cures it only for a while & starts to do the same again, change the IAC motor. They never, or very rarely store a code, so it isn't something that comes to mind very often unless experienced with symptoms.

I have a 2000 dodge durango 5.9L and it idles high when in park it also will act like it wants to die out. when the rpm goes over 1 and 2 it seems fine. but than it will drop under 1 and idle funny.. we...


I'd pull IAC , (idle air control) motor off and clean it as well as hole it comes out of with throttle body cleaner, especially pintle (pointed part ) of IAC motor. Re-install it & see if it solves problem. If it does & starts to do it again in future, replace it.

97 dodge ram wont idle. starts and sounds fine when you give it some gas


Pull your IAC (idle air control) motor off and give it & port it comes out of a good cleaning with carb or throttle body cleaner & try it. If it cure's it for a while but starts to do it again in future, replace it. let me know how it works.

Rpm 2500 to 3000 when you start then goes down 1500


In 99% of the cases of GMs doing that it's the Idle Air Control motor, which you already changed. But changing it does not always fix the problem. First, if you bought the new IAC motor second hand, change it again cause last time i had to change mine 3 times before i got one that worked OK. Second, if it was bought new and/or your are 100% sure the IAC is working fine, then you probably just have to much carbon deposits where the motor's tip and the intake manifold meet and are supposed to seal up, preventing it from closing normally and giving the engine too much air, cause the high RPM idle. So take the IAC out again, clean the opening, lip and everything you can see and get into around that area, with a cue-tip and some contact cleaner, or lighter fluid or rubbing alcohol to get all the carbon deposits out and you should be ok. If not, then the problem probably resides in the car's onboard computer.

99 Dodge Durango Dies When Slowing


Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

the IAC motor is probably sticking...it controls the idle. Try pulling it off and cleaning it out...or just replace it
