Question about 1994 Oldsmobile 88

1 Answer

My 1995 oldsmobile 88 wouldnbt start after I made a brief stop.

I got a jump, and made it home, only to have it not start back up for me.
The guy I brought it from said that he had not so long ago replaced the alternator. Now, it wont even start from a jump, its cranking, not turning over.
Should I replace the alt again, or start with all the wires. may it be the starter?
Any help would be appreciated.

i have a 95 olds 88 and mine wont start either after a brief stop it takes sometimes up to a half hour to start again. it also sometimes stalls out while going down the road. i have heard that it could be the crank censer or the coil module. or even possibly the air bypass valve and the throttle valve could be gunked up. i have no idea can some one please help ????

My 94 olds 88 has the 95 computer in it, fun because it is never what they say the problem is for the codes. I had the same problem, we changed the oxygen censor, ran fine after that.

Car died then started to chug. who not speed up like it wasnt getting enough gas. had the car floored and would chug along. service engine soon light was blinking til i got home. now it will not start

So many things that could cause this problem, have the fuel pressure checked, and then maybe a stopped up cat(converter). If it has jumped time it will have this symptom also.

1995 olds royale 88; fixed fuel pump, starts then shut it off and re start but nothing happens; sat over night, started right up three times in a row but the fourth not a chance; what's wrong?

You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Is the check engine light on ? Have you checked for trouble codes ?
It could be a relay, the ignition module, coil, key switch, or a list of other things.

I have a 1995 olds 88 that is pre OBD2 but it has the OBD2 connector. It will not allow me to retrive codes???

The 1995 Olds 88 has an obd 2 plug, but is an obd 1 system. Some people call it obd 1.5
There is no option to jump 2 contacts to flash the codes on the check engine light in these cars.
You will either need a compatible scan tool, or a cable to hook to a laptop and the software to pull the codes. (check out
One such scan tool is the Actron CP9185. It has the extra data pin for the 8192 baud communication with the computer in these cars. (pin 9 on the OBD 2 connector)
