It means check altanator regulator/ rectifier the wiring to and from battery and altanator as it it telling you that the charging system is throwing a fault it could be that a sensor is faulty
If not you could lose the ability to start and run the vehicle
Run your vehicle turn on radio headlights wipers heat disconnect the positive side of you battery if the vehicle dies its still your altanator but also check the cable from your altanator to make sure it's not broke anywhere.
Chances are its the wire between the alternator and the battery, or the circuit that goes to the warning light on the dash. The warning light powers the volt regulator in the alternator which "turns on" the alternator. The wire between the alternator and the battery is designed to burn and cut the connection much like a fuse. You may have to get a shop manual or repair book to get the wiring diagram needed to troubleshoot the circuits.
sounds like you might have lost the altanator. Check the battary to see if it is very low, if so it was running of the battery and not the altanator. try charging the battery and see if it will run. If it does, checkthe voltage on the battery. it should be above 13 volts when runnig. If not it is the altanator.
two things would cause this a totally dead battery. or a loss of the ground. headlights are grounded to the body and run directly off of the battery. since your lights dont work this would point to a dead battery.to find out if the battery is bad or if it was caused by the charging system not working. try jumping the car if you can get it started here are a couple of simple ways to check the charging. one with the car running remove the possitive cable from the battery if the car dies the altanator is not charging replace it. if the car stays running the battery most likely has dead cells and wont hold the charge. the other way is to take a bolt or small ferous metal object and on the back of the altanator there is a round cap in the center of the case if the piece of metal your using will stick to that cap then the altanator is producing a charge and the battery is the problem. if no magnetic field is present then the alternator is bad and needs replaced
A fresh charged battery does not mean it is a good battery. The battery is working the alternator to death, replace it,it has a bad cell,or the amps are to low,and has a short in it.The alternator senses the battery is in bad need off charge, and puts all out until the alternator has nothing left,This is the most likely cause of this problem. Also be sure the battery cable ends are shiny clean when replacing the battery.
