From what you describe re turbo and blue smoke then you say impellor is loose?? this soundslike the tubo has failed because the oil seals have gone allowing oil loss to bearings due to entering the induction/manifold you will req a recon or new turbo and if yours is intercooled then the intercooler will req cleaning as will ind hoses when work is completed the smoke will be evident for a while due to exhaust system contamination especially catalytic ? i'm afraid these components are expensive and not really diy

You did not tell us what color of smoke you see when you start the engine. If its white smoke, you could have some injectors leaking or some of the glow plugs are beginning to go

If its blue smoke you could have problems with the valve seals leaking or even leaking from the turbo. If the turbo seals are leaking leaking into the down pipe, there would be a lot of very oily black sludge built up and if you looked into the turbine there was a lot of oil around the wheel as well. You can check your turbo for end play and even disconnect your down pipe and stick a finger inside to check for oily sludge. Black soot is normal, but it should be bone dry in there.

And of course black smoke can be a combination but most likely dirty air filter and air system.

Lot of blue smoke out of exhaust when starting up and does not sound right

Your buring oil. Bring vehicle to a repair shop this way they can determine whetherits a pcvor transmission vacuum switch thats causing it or is it engine mechanical.

X5 diesal blue smoke

Hi , if you have had a turbo failure on this vehicle , just replacing the turbo will not cure the cause of blue smoke . depending how bad the seals had gone in the turbo you would need to replace , the complete exhaust system , the crankcase breater , air intake manifold , air charger but only if these items have been contaminated with oil , they would not be able to be cleaned out , hope this helps , regards mark

6.6 liter diesel blows blue smoke

check turbo tubes for oil. If wet turbo is leaking. otherwise you may have rings leaking, how is compression?
Also there is a crankcase pressure soleniod in left side of enigine block, it should NOT rattle.

White smoke from exhaust

If you are getting clouds of white smoke out the exhaust it is a good indicator of antifreeze getting into one or more of the cylinders. I bought a "Great" car sight unseen from a friend once and when he pulled in the drive the whole car disappeared in a cloud of white smoke that only left when he shut the engine off. I found head gasket leaks in half the cylinders. It takes very little coolant to cause the white smoke. If you are absolutely sure of zero coolant loss perhaps the smoke is a little blue--an indication of burning a little oil from a sloppy turbo bearing. Try the nose test-- it may give you the answer. Burning oil has a distinctive smell.

Turbo in 1985 cavalier is not working

Sounds like you may have turbo failure. The bearings may be bad and running the engine would damage it more if a turbo fin breaks of and endes up in the pistons. If there is lot's of blue smoke from the tail pipe then it's your turbo, if not it could be your boost side pipe clamp or tube gone bad or your wastegate actuator. Good luck and hope this helps

White Smoke out my exhause,

Hello chris first thing you need to do is while the car is running go to the rear of your car have somone increase the gas pedal to get it to smoke now smell the smoke does it smell like antifreeze if it does most likely headgasket going wich means your head needs to be pulled to change the gasket if it smells like oil possible valve seals clogged oil returns this is all serviced under your valve cover if car is turbo turbo seal internal most likely ruptured and is letting oil get into the exhaust port side have your turbo checked if there is wettness around the housing areallook for exsesive oil leaking externally goodluck please rate
