I bought the honda after it had been sitting. I have bleed the brakes and replaced the calipers but the front brakes keep hanging up and overheating. What else can cause this problem?

Thank you for the idea. What pistons are you talking about? I have replaced the front calipers, they should be clean.

Passenger side brakes lock up

Hi,
Replace or rebuild the caliper. Also, may just need to grease the glide/slide pins that the caliper moves on.

DO I COMPASS THE CALIPERS WITH A C CLAMP OR DOES IT TURN REAR BRAKES HONDA PRELUDE

I would remove the cap to the master cylinder, then barely crack the bleeder valve. after that then you can compress the caliper with a c clamp. be careful, your gonna lose some brake fluid.

1990 Honda accord brake problems

Short of jacking up the wheel and putting a new car underneath, you've just about covered all the possibilities. But I wonder, perhaps in your attempts to solve this, if you have inadvertantly introduced another fault? As you know, the brake master cylinder on a disc braked vehicle has no static valve. If there were to be a static valve in the master cylinder, the brakes would lock on after a few pumps. But this would affect both front wheels. There could also be a collapsed section in one of the flexible hoses which would let fluid through for bleeding but not allow the fluid to return. this would hold the brake on too. When you had the cliper off, did the rotor trun freely?

Your problem look like if there is still some air in the calipper cylinder.
I suggest you loosen the brake hose at the calliper and completely retract the piston.
Then thighen back the hose and perform a normal bleeding procedure of the front brake lines.

1992 Honda Prelude Si brake caliper piston prob

As your car has a handbrake fitted to the rear calipers, you will need a piston wind in tool to retract the piston fully back into the caliper as when you adjust your handbrake the piston automatically winds itself to the required position for usage without this tool you are getting nowhere,so get hold of a tool to do the job and you should not have problem unless the piston has totally siezed on the screw then you will have a problem being the only way to repair would to be a new or refurbished caliper.

Brakes are sticking after application front right being the worse

Hi,

I've had a similar problem as what you describe. For me it was as simple as replacing a faulty front brake line. Never had any problems since. Hope this will help you narrow it down some.

Front brakes seem to be draging?

I just did all 4 brakes and have drag at the left rear. When I re-assembled it, the bracket that holds the caliper was frozen. It's supposed to be able to slide in and out. I guess that's my problem, but I can't find anyone to sell me a new bracket...they want me to buy the whole caliper.

Need brake help please

When you replaced the caliper, were the posts on the mounting bracket able to slide in and out? They're the posts with the black rubber bellows and they have to be able to expand/compress.

You most likely have a problem w/ the brake fluid being contaminated. Have u ever had the brake fluid changed? Everytime u need brakes, u should bleed the brakes to remove the old fluid. This is something most people DO NOT do, and the old fluid ruins the calipers and brake cylinders. Look in the master cylinder at the fluid. Is it dark, or clear? When the fluid goes bad, it'll not be clear. Fluid also absorbs moisture which is terrible for the brake system. Make sure any bottles of brake fluid are closed tightly after opening. Moisture and contaminants will corrode the inside of the calipers and brake cylinders, and the pistons stick and bind, and will finally totally seize up. Flush the system starting at the bleeder that's the greatest distance away from the master cylinder, then next greatest distance, 3rd greatest, then closest. Bleed each wheel until fluid runs out clear, and then a few more times to be sure u flushed it all out. Check the master cylinder often, so u don't run it so low it draws in air, or u will have more bleeding to do to get the air out too. U might be able to dissassemble the caliper if it's very recently changed, clean it up, check for any crud and coat w/ clean fluid, reassemble. Good Luck, let me know how u make out. countrycurt0
