There should be a drain screw on the bottom of the pan, drain the pan it is recommended that you change the filter also, you have to unbolt the pan and lower it to change the filter. bolt the pan back up and fill the transmission back up. i hope that helps you out.
To add the transmission fluid you pull your oil cap remove the cover as if you were going to change the oil filter on the same side as the oil filter or the drivers side their is a cap that has a gear on it look down past the hoses and you will see the black cap you will need a long neck funnel and only use the dex III you will need to find out how much fluid the transmission hold hopes this helps you.

SOURCE: Trans-axle fluid leak

checking the transmission fluid involves lifting the vehicle and removing a plug on the transmission, it is quite difficult and messy if you don't have access to a lift, the vehicle has to be level and at operating temperature in park, there is a small plug on the side of the transmission near the passenger axle shaft. remove the plug slowly, i believe it is an 11mm bolt, if fluid drips out, the level is ok, if no fluid comes out, there is a small plastic screw on cap on top of the transmission itself on the driverside near the oil filter cap, add fluid slowly untill fluid starts to drip out of the plug hole, once the fluid starts to drip, insert the plug and tighten, don't overtighten, just snug it up.!!!make sure you use the right fluid, this is important!!! i believe your fluid is dextron 6, double check in your owners manual, the use of any other fluid will cause damage!!! also, do not remove the small plug on the front of the transmission, that is the pressure plug, all the fluid will shoot out with force if that plug is removed!!!

SOURCE: How do I change the automatic transmission fluid

there will be a plug at the bottom of the transmission. pull the plug, let it drain, and replace the plug. Refill with the recommended amount of fluid out of the owners manual. Run the vehicle through the gears a few times with the car started. let it idle till the temp. comes up, then check the trans fluid level and add till full

I believe you have to crawl under the car and check the level thru a sight window in the side of the transmission.

COULD BE FAULTY VECHICLE SPEED SENSOR. BUT HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCAN. YOUR VECHICLE TIME FOR TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE IF FLUID IS LOW. YOUR VECHICLE HAS A CHECK PLUG ON TRANSMISSION ADJACENT TO OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG. YOUR VECHICLE HAS TO BE LEVEL AND RAISED ON A CAR LIFT WITH ENGINE RUNNING WITH CHECK PLUG REMOVED. TRANSMISSION FLUID SHOULD DRIP OUT SLOW DRIP FLUID LEVEL GOOD.TRANSMISSION FLUID DRIPS OUT FAST TOO MUCH FLUID IN TRANSMISSION. IF NO FLUID DRIP OUT YOU NEED ADD PINT AT A TIME.IT MUCH SAFER TO LET A GARAGE CHANGE CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID.WARNING THIS IS A DANGEROUS JOB TO DO YOUR SELF.VECHICLE NEED TO BE RAISED UP ON LEVEL HARD SURFACE.CAR SHOULD BE ON JACK STANDS.ENGINE NEED TO RUN UNTIL TRANSMISSION FLUID OPERATING TEMPERATURE REMOVE THE 11M OR 12M CHECK PLUG ON TRANSMISSION PUT DRAIN PAN UNDER TRANSMISSION. IF NO FLUID COME OUT ADD PINT AT A TIME. YOU POUR TRANSMISSION FLUID AT TOP TRANSMISSION AREA WHERE FILLER TUBE USE TO BE LOCATED REMOVE THE RED VENT FILL CAP.SCREW IT OFF USE A LONG LONG FUNNEL TO POUR FLUID IN TRANSMISSION. TO DO THIS JOB YOUR SELF NEED HELPER OR SOME BODY AROUND AT ALL TIMES BECAUSE ENGINE GOING TO BE RUNNING, YOU ARE GOING TO BE DIRECTLY UNDER THE CAR.WEAR LONG SLEEVE COVERALLS TO KEEP FROM GETTING BURN UNDER CAR.DONT PUT HAND OR ARMS NO WHERE NEAR THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WHILE ENGINE RUNNING.LIKE I SAY BE CAREFUL THIS JOB IS A DEALERSHIP JOB.

2005 chevrolet cobalt automatic transmission will not shift into overdrive

Low trans fluid, dirty transmission filter, clogged valve body in transmission, bad trans controller, or vehicle speed sensor. There is no dipstick to check trans fluid. I would start by having trans flushed and filled and codes scanned if problem still persists take to a certified transmission shop unless you are an experienced mechanic

Check transmission fluid 2005 chevy cobalt

Cobalt has a front engine front wheel drive layout. The transaxle has a dip stick that can be accessed from by opening the hood. The dip stick has markings on it indicating full/half//low oil level.

My transmission on my 2005 Chevy cobalt is acting up I need to know if it's possible to put transmission fluid into the cobalt I have no idea where to put it there is a little On top of the transmissi

if it is a automatic transmission just open the hood and there is a tube other than the oil tube usually the opposing side of the engine between the engine and the fire wall it has a long dip stick just like the oil stick and this fluid level should be checked when engine is running in park,If it is manual transmission it is usually a sealed unit.

Where is transmission dipstick Chevy cobalt 2005

according to wiki.answers.com
"Chevy Cobalt has a sealed Automatic Transmission... no dip stick. Probably best to take it in to get service by trans shop if you think it needs changing or re-filling."
Or
"There actually isn't one. It's a sealed system. There is a cap to fill the transmission directly ontop of the transmission. If you need to check the level, lift the car1.gif in the air and there is a 11mm plug on the bottom of the transmission, With the car running (WARNING: THE CAR MUST REMAIN RUNNING WHILE PLUG IS OUT!!!!) take the plug out, the fluid should trickle out of the hole. If no fluid comes out add fluid. AGAIN DONT SHUT THE CAR OFF WHILE IT IS RUNNING OR ELSE FLUID WILL POUR OUT!"

Where do you fill the automatic transmission?

If you have a tranny dipstick, then you would need a long tranny type funnel and fill there.
If you do not have a dip stick, then you would have to raise the vehicle, and look at the tranny. There will be a higher and a lower plug on it. Remove the higher plug and stick your finger in the hole. If you feel fluid, then it is full.

This is how you do it.

Ensure that the transaxle case temperature is 70° to 90° F (21° to 32° C). With the engine running, shift transmission through all gears. With engine idling in PARK, remove the check plug from the transmission. If transmission has been overfilled, allow fluid to drain out. If no fluid drains out, add fluid through the TRANS FLUID fill cap under the hood on the driver side in 1 pint (0.5 liter) increments until it slightly flows from the check plug. Reinstall the check plug.
