2005 Lincoln Navigator, since 1500 miles has periodically had a problem where when you accelerate the rpm's go up to 4 or 500 but the car will not accelerate. then what feels like a bump from behind and the car accelerates. Told dealership, many times, test drove cant find problem. Now at 69,000 miles engine light goes on the engine starts up loud, periodically stalls etc. Ford says they won't do anything even though we have complained about problem for 3 years. Ironically, after the last visit to dealership, out of warranty, the service people experienced the problem I have been complaining about for 3 years on a test drive. Anyone else having similar problems??

Motor shaking is usually a misfire. Caused by gas dumping or ignition faults.

If the engine light is on the codes to look up the fault will be stored on your computer. A trip to Autozone or a garage or a friend with a scan tool will get you those codes. Then you can diagnose it.

If it shuts off when u add gas and shudders it has some engine management problem - get the codes...

I have a 2004 Toyota highlander leaking oil, oil light comes on. Could it be the rubber rings?

a 2004 toyota highlander V6

this should be your engine type
The 2GR-FE is a 3.5 L (3456 cc)

if leaks are that bad
always check the engine oil level before you drive off

fixing oil leaks on motors
degrease whole motor top and bottom

start with replacing the oil sender it may be the cause of the oil light coming on
after degrease
lay cardboard or paper under the car
take out for a drive and park over the paper over night

this pin points most of the oil leak locations
leaks from a V6 motor
rocker covers/ spark plug tube 0 rings.engine seals
cam seals
front and rear engine seals leak often
sump gasket can leak

if oil consumption or light on continues
can be a failing engine oil pump
or worn main bearings giving low oil pressure to the whole engine
you could be burning oil from worn piston rings
or hardened valve stems

a mechanic can fit an oil pressure gauge to the motor when hot
to check running oil pressure to confirm low oil pressure

if engine is worn out

it is possible to fit a lower mileage used motor to your highlander
its often cheaper than and engine rebuild

Would low oil level cause engine to shut off while driving?

An effect of low oil level may damage valve lifters, they may have experienced excessive wear.
Definitively, continuous running of motor with low pressure might damage the motor.
If you check always oil level and it is an ocasional event, as long as the engine wasn't starving for oil under load (i.e. the oil pressure warning light did not come on), it won't have suffered immediate, catastrophic damage
I would worry more about the cumulative effect of chronic neglect. After the car is fully warmed up and warning light come on at idle your engine is on its last legs.

Low oil lights and engine shuts down

Give the unit a good shake. Possible that the float that sits in the oil sump is stuck. It sits on the oil and sends a shut down signal if the oil level is low. A sticky float will give this false signal.

OKAY, FIRST THING THE OIL LITGH WILL COME ON WHEN IT CUTS OFF . WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY ON THE OIL LIGTH COMES ON W/MORE LITGHS UNTIL YOU CRANK IT . SECOND WHEN THEY CHANGED THE BATTERY THE COMPUTER HAS TO RELEARN THE ENGINE WOULD UNHOOK BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE TO RESET IT ,THEN DRIVE IT FOR A COUPLE MILES NOT WHERE YOU HAVE TO STOP ALOT .

Hi, I was driving my 2003 toyota runx 1.6 RT when the red oil light came on the dashboard. While I was driving the engine switched off. What could be the problem?

check oil levels every fill up of gas.
if you see drop of level then, then check more often.
same answer for 100 years, and will never change. (otto cyle engines, ICE)
if not, say good bye to $3000 for a new engine.

read the opr guide yet?

Engine light came on

You should never drive with a red engine light there is always the risk of further damage to engine, this could mean no or low oil pressure driving like that will damage the engine. Check oil level first check coolant level and get back to me.

98 lincoln navigator loud noise, shaking, high rpm at idle, drive

I don't know how much oil you had to put in but it sounds like you have maybe more than opne issue and both sound major. One is engine reving and speed not picking up sounds like trans problem. Two the engine shaking and making noise and being run low on oil leans toward possible engine damage. If your mechanicly inclined check all fluids and when checking trans fluid smell it. If it smells burnt the trans has been damaged. Check oil pressure and make sure coolant is full. You may have to take it into the shop.
