''Check trip computer'' light

When I start my car, "check trip computer" appears on my heads-up display. It stays on for only a moment and then disappears. What does this mean.

Generally. . . do you still have the door open when you start the car? "Check Trip Computer" relates to the display above the stereo (with the odometer, temp, compass, etc. . . ) I've noticed this a few times also. . . but it has ALWAYS been a case of either the door open or that I've accidentally popped the latch on the trunk prior to starting the car. Hope this helps.

White smoke under hood

This is a difficult one to diagnose over the internet.
It is possible you have a blown head gasket, and the "white smoke" is from water vapour.
Suggest you check your oil to see if it is milky because water is getting into the oil, and check the water to see if oil is getting into the coolant.
If you have either of these, you may need to have a new head gasket for the engine, and hopefully you do not have a cracked engine head.
This will require a fair bit of work to fix correctly. Your local garage or mechanic may be your next call.
If this is the case you can buy a coolant additive that will seal where a gasket is damaged, or even fix a cracked engine head, but it is only a temporary fix.

2006 toyota corolla maint. required light stays on. How do I make it go out after maint.

turn the key on. press the odometer/trip button until the odometer is displayed. turn the key off. press and hold the odometer button and turn the key to the run position (do not start). The odometer should change from a number to all dashes ( - - - - - - ). One by one the dashes will disappear then the display will change to all zeros and then will change to the regular odometer reading. Once the regular odometer is displayed let go of the button and turn the key off. The maintenance light will now be reset.

Maintance light will not go off after oil change

with the key off press and hold the trip reset button in the instrument cluster while you turn the key to the run position. The display will turn to dashes and then they will start to disappear. The all zeros will appear and then the odometer will again be shown. Release the button and the maintenance light will be reset.

Sometimes the odometer needs to be on trip A before turning the key off and pressing the button.

How do I reset the change oil light after changing the oil. It did not go out.

Try this and if it does not work let me know.

1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position without starting the engine.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
3. If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator flashes two times, or the display reads "OIL LIFE INDEX RESETTING 100%" then the system is resetting.
4. Turn the ignition key to "OFF", and then start the vehicle.
5. If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator comes on and stays on, or CHANGE OIL SOON is displayed then the system did not reset and repeat the procedure.

1. To reset the OIL LIFE indictor if equipped with a Trip Computer, press the TRIP MODE button until the light appears next to OIL LIFE.
2. Press and hold the trip RESET button until the oil life percentage changes to 99%.

Maint req light

That just means you're due for an oil change. they automatically come on after 5000 miles. To reset the light, put it on the odometer display in your instrument cluster. turn the key off. now push and hold the odometer/trip reset button while you turn on the key to the IGN position. You will see 5 dashes on the odometer display, which will sequencially disappear and then go back to the odometer when it's done. after your odometer shows again, you can release the odometer/trip reset button and your maintenence light should be off.

Maintenance Required light came on & stayed on after oil change

I get many calls a week for this procedure...
This is really easy! Follow these directions:

Turn the key ON

Look at the odometer, and verify that it displays "ODO" and the total mileage traveled. If it is on "Trip A" or "Trip B", press the black stick next to the odometer to read "ODO", and the total miles traveled.

Turn the key OFF.

Press in, and HOLD the black trip meter reset button, hold it in.
DO not release it.

Turn the key ON

Observe the Odometer display. The total mileage traveled will disappear, and you will see 5 dashes, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 dash, and finally, 5 zeros. Then, the total mileage traveled will redisplay.

Release the black trip meter reset stick.

This completes the reset procedure, and it will be back on in 5,000 miles, to remind you of you next oil change.
If you do NOT see the dashes, followed by the 5 zeros, start the entire procedure again, but start with the odometer set to TRIP "A". Some vehicles use Trip A instead of the ODO.

You do NOT START the vehicle at any time during the reset procedure.
If the engine starts, the procedure will not reset.

"oil" displayed on start up

most cars have a self diagnosis proceedure during and just after startup. this is not a fault unless it appears while going round corners or just generally driving around. you have had the sense to check your levels and pressures then i wouldnt worry too much about it unless it stays on or is as i say on while driving.
