As long as the engine temperature is normal, i would suspect a clogged heater core, the dex-cool antifreeze is notorious for building up deposits in cooling system. have heater core flushed first to see if it makes any difference

there are 2 rubber hoses probably side by side on firewall inside engine compartment on pass. side. however is the easiest way to disconnect the hoses to flush out one way then the other. you want to separate the heater core from the eingine to make it easier. a pressure washer works well.

There is not enough antifreeze in the radiatar. while the engine is cool and on level ground take off the radiatar cap and start the engine. let it run for 15 to 30 min. after the engine starts to get to operating temp. start adding antifreeze keeping the level at the top of the radiatar. it may over spill but what you are doing is getting all the air out of the system. this should take care of the heating problem. i forgot to mention. you want to keep your heating on high during this process.

Heater blows cool warm air idiot light says it is hot

Engine temperature is too hot. Better not run it till you find the problem, or you may need new head gaskets. Try changing thermostats, flush and refill with correct mixture antifreeze and water. If still overheating, get it to a shop for diagnosing.

2001 olds silhouette engine overheats

Time for Intake Gaskets and possibly head gaskets, very common problem with these, the intake gaskets go bad and the coolant actually burns in the cylinder and of course the cylinder pumps air into the coolant system because of intake gaskets being bad. :-(

What should i do when the hot air doesn't work

does the air not blow when it is turned to hot or does it blow but just not hot? If it blows but not hot you need to replace your thermostat and heater core which looks like a little radiator under your dash.

My temp gauge goes up to the hot but doesn't overheat but blows cold air then the gauge will drop to bout half n then start blowin hot air replaced thermostat n a new rad cap could it be the heat sensor

No, because it blows cold air when it gets hot. There is air in the system or the coolant is low. Intake manifold gaskets are a very common problem on these engines and if left unattended to can cause even bigger problems such as head gaskets if the engine over heats too much. Check the coolant level and if it is low, look for leaks at the water pump, radiator and especially the intake manifold where it meets the head. Also, pull the oil dip stick an/or the oil cap to see if it looks milky. If it does, there is coolant getting into the oil.

My 02 Oldsmobile Silhouette is over heating what could be the problem

Overheating problems usually warrant some troubleshooting. First, check your antifreeze level. If it's low, replace it, run it for a couple of minutes with your heater on, then recheck it. Next, your thermostat could be stuck. For about 30 minutes worth of work, and about $10 of parts, you can do this replacement yourself. This will usually give you the symptoms of having one coolant hose being hot and the other cool, if it's the thermostat that's stuck closed. The next place to look is the water pump. There aren't too many reliable ways of testing one of these at home, so it's pretty much a replace and pray, because if it isn't, then it's something more serious like a blown head gasket or a cracked head. These last two can disclose their presence by evidence of oil or antifreeze leakage, or white smoke when you first start up your vehicle in the morning, but will not always do this.

My 1998 oldsmobile sillihouette runs hot when i sit for a while. I've replaced all the fuses. Please Help...

You may just need to service the cooling system. The antifreeze has a life expectancy and needs to be changed after a few years. If it's green antifreeze it should be changed once a year or 30,000 miles with  50/50 mix and if it's the orange antifreeze it's good for 5 years and 150,000 miles before replacement with a 50/50 mix. You need to flush the cooling system out and replace the antifreeze and you may also want to replace the thermostat which can be un pleasant if you have larger hands. The thermostat housing is under the throttle body and if you have the right tools and small hands you can remove it with out taking the throttle body off. If you do decide to change the thermostat, replace it with the fail safe thermostat just to make sure your not stuck on the side of the road. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to help and do not use 100% antifreeze, it will just gel up and you'll still over heat.
