Question about 1998 Chevrolet Prizm
Recently, the check engine light on my 1998 chevy prism has been coming on randomly. (car has about 95k miles). i had it checked out, and it was the gas cap (?) the shop told me the light should go off in about 100 miles once we tightened my gas cap. they were right-- it went off in about 130 miles. it came back on, though, and i haven't recently gotten gas, so it's concerning that the light is back on again. i've heard that if the light is solid, and not blinking, it's not a big deal. is this true? should i be concerned? the car is running normally otherwise-- not too hot, doesn't smell oddly, accelerates fine. any info would be greatly appreciated! thanks
The 1st thing to do is find out which one of over 100 codes is stored in the engine computers memory, whenever the check engine light comes on a code for that problem is stored in memory. You can go to any Auto-Zone parts store and they will run this code read test for free, then post them back here and I will help figure out what has gone wrong.
