Question about 1998 Chevrolet Prizm

Check engine light keeps coming on

Recently, the check engine light on my 1998 chevy prism has been coming on randomly. (car has about 95k miles). i had it checked out, and it was the gas cap (?) the shop told me the light should go off in about 100 miles once we tightened my gas cap. they were right-- it went off in about 130 miles. it came back on, though, and i haven't recently gotten gas, so it's concerning that the light is back on again. i've heard that if the light is solid, and not blinking, it's not a big deal. is this true? should i be concerned? the car is running normally otherwise-- not too hot, doesn't smell oddly, accelerates fine. any info would be greatly appreciated! thanks

Toyota Corrola, Chevy Prism of 98 -02 or so have a notorious problem with "topping off the tank" My evap canister died at about 70K. When the pump stops, from now on I will never add one drop more. Since then I have replaced the HVAC fan motor resister, and cleaned the MAF (mass air flow sensor) with electronic's cleaner. Love this plane jane of a car, these are the typical issues.

The 1st thing to do is find out which one of over 100 codes is stored in the engine computers memory, whenever the check engine light comes on a code for that problem is stored in memory. You can go to any Auto-Zone parts store and they will run this code read test for free, then post them back here and I will help figure out what has gone wrong.

1994 Chev Cavalier - engine light comes on randomly

One cause of the light to come on randomly is a loose gas cap. If it's not replaced tightly (turned until it clicks three or four times) it throws the light on. It's one thing to check anyway.

Audi A4 1.8 engine light on and off, and car keeps shaking. Not sure what it is. Is it a serious problem?

Could be a single coil. The same thing happened when my coils went out one at a time after about 95K miles.

1998 lumina engine light keeps coming on but i dont know why. it goes off sometimes but then keeps coming back on. any solutions?

Since the check engine light does not specify what the problem is a scanner is needed to access the engine control computer. You can have it checked at any Chevy dealership and/or local auto repair shop.

98 C1500 Silverado ''service engine soon'' light

the service engine soon lite comes on due to an input sensor to your vehicles computer that has gone out of its parameters. this lite does not come on due to mileage. the computer needs to be scanned for code #'s in order to diagnose correctly. autozone will scan codes for free. if you get me the code #, ill try to assist further, otherwise you may want to see your local garage.

check your fuel filter, take an air compressor and blow air through the "in" end if no or little air is coming through then just replace the filter, if fuel filter is ok then try a fuel additive to clean your injectors which are a very common problem when the engine gets gunky build up on them
