Spray the backside, where the rotor meet the mate, and spray it with some PB BLASTER....be careful not to get it on the rotors .....bang on the rotors a bit with a copper hammer to set up micro fractures in the rust for the oil to pass thru....then bang on them a bit more til they loosen up. I had some really bad ones myself....not fun

Why cant I get the rear rotor off my 2007 dodge 3500

Being a 3500, I'm guessing it's a dually? The axle MUST be removed to take the rotor off. Remove the 8 bolts on the axle flange, then carefully remove the axle. Behind where it was, you'll find a snap ring. Remove that and pull the key block out. Using a brass punch to knock it loose, unscrew and remove the spanner nut, then the outer wheel bearing. After you do all that, you can remove the rotor.

Brake rotor and front or rear?

Okay, remove the wheel then remove the brake caliper and move to side do not allow to hang on the brake hose, use a hook to hang off spring or set aside. next remove the caliper bracket, two bolts at rear of bracket to remove it.
next you will use a hammer to remove the rotor.

NOTE: the way the brake rotor was designed was a bad one the hub in which the rotor slides over and the wheel studs slide into holes on the rotor is bad the hub diameter is almost the same size as the diameter of the seat of the rotor that slide over the hub and what happens is sometimes the rust build up on the rotor seat locks the brake rotor on the hub. i do not know if you are reusing the rotors or replacing them, no sure what job you are doing . the rotors to take off you will need to tap on the rear of them with a little force and turn, hit and turn. you will need to see if they break free or if hard beating and spraying into the rear of them is needed with wd40.
Alot of these rotors also have two threaded hole on the face of the rotor near the studs so that you can screw two bolts into holes to help pull them. use wire to tie caliper up and also use a c-clamp to push piston into calipe to remove caliper if needed, Do not remove brake hose, there is no need to open system, here is a picture of the rotor coming of the hub, also there may be clips on the stud holding rotor on remove them use cutters or pry off do not need to reuse , they are to help in holding the rotor on during asm, if you want you can buy them and reinstall them but never reuse them.12_25_2012_5_41_09_pm.png

I have 2001 mercury marquis Lf rear parking brake popped how do I remove the rotor

Cable and linkages are likely seizedwith rust and/or ice. Remove bottom caliper bolt to remove caliper up and off rotor.Un-bolt caliper support to allow removal of rotor. Make sure parking brake eyelet protruding throuth backing plate isin the off position that is pointing to rear ofcar; secure with vice grips if necessary.Now proceed to tap rear face of rotor all arround on inside to remove Depending how badly it is corroded and internally seized,(also worn groove) ,rotor and internalparking brake shoes will have to be sacrifiiced and replaced. Purchase new hold - kit emergency brake shoes and rotors for both rear wheels

Back brakes nut for holding rotors, size?

I'm assuming you want to remove the rear rotors. No rear brake rotor nut for holding the rotor on that I know off. I just had my rear rotors off and turned on my 94 Concorde LX.
After removing the tire I diligenty removed the star washers (2) from the lug studs. Then a little spray of PB Blaster around the center hub. Next I removed the 2 10mm bolts holding the caliper to the rotor. A slight nudge with a rubber mallet and the caliper is free, but do support it, don't let it dangle. Another slight nudge on the rotor with a rubber mallet and the rotor literally fell off the car.
There is a rear axle nut and bearing inside of the center hub that is secured by a large 34mm hex nut, on the outside of that a lock ring that looks like a large black bottle cap with a cotter pin going through it for retention. That has nothing to do with removing the rotors. With a little patience, lubricant and gentle tapping, the rotors slide off the center hub. Hope this helps.

How to remove brake rotors on a 1996 ford explorer

How to replace the rear brake pads on a 1995 through 2001 Ford Explorer The system utilizes a drum-in-hat type rear brake rotor. The integral drum allows the use of a drum-and-shoe type parking brake system. All other components are similar to their front disc brake components Remove the two bolts on either side of the brake hose with the rubber boots. Do not remove the four bolts where the axle ties in. The two bolts to be removed require a 10mm socket/wrench. Loosen the pads from the caliper Rotor Removal In order to take the rotors off (replace with new or have them machined), it is best to loosen the emergency brake shoes. To do this, behind the rotors, in the back there is a rubber plug, remove that and you can use a screw driver to engage the teeth of the adjusting screw, turn it clockwise to loosen, usually 10-20 teeth. Usually this means turn it downward. After this, it may still be difficult to get the rotors off without tapping them. Use a rubber mallet and hit them from behind. Before really whacking the rotor, make sure you have loosened the adjusting screw enough. It may take heavy swings of the rubber hammer to do this. It will eventually break loose. Parking Brake You might want to check the parking brake while you are here. To remove:
  • Remove the rear disc brake rotor.
  • Remove the outboard return spring.
  • Remove the adjusting screw spring.
  • Remove the rear brake shoe hold-down spring and pin.
  • Remove the brake shoe adjusting screw and nut.
  • Remove the front brake shoe hold-down spring and pin.
  • Remove both parking brake shoes and the inboard return spring.
  • Check the parking brake lever for excessive wear and replace as necessary.
To install:
  • Position the front parking brake shoe to the backing plate and install the hold-down pin and spring.
  • Install the rear parking brake shoe with the inboard return spring.
  • Position the brake shoe adjuster screw and nut on the shoes and install the rear shoe hold-down pin and spring.
  • Install the brake shoe adjuster spring.
  • Install the outboard return spring.
  • Adjust the parking brake shoes and install the rotor, caliper and wheel.
  • Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm).
ADJUSTMENT
  • Measure the inside of the drum portion of the rear brake rotor
  • Remove the rear disc brake rotor.
  • Using Brake Adjustment Gauge D81L-1103-A or equivalent, measure the inside diameter of the drum portion of the rear disc brake rotor.
  • Subtract 0.020 in. (0.508mm) from the first measurement, adjust the brake shoes to that size
  • Adjust the parking brake adjuster screw until the outside diameter of the parking brake shoes measures 0.020 in. (0.508mm) less than the drum measurement.
  • Install the rear disc brake rotor.
Reassembly Reassembly is easy. Put new or machined rotors back on by sliding them over the lugs (they should slide on easily.) Loosen bleeder valve (having a catch bottle handy is good). Push calipers in slowly (using a c-clamp or large channel lock pliers), close bleeder valve. Put on pads. Lubricate metal clips with small amount of anti-seize. Re-adjust the emergency brake by turning the opposite direction from loosening. Refill the brake master cylinder

Remove rear rotors

There is likely a rust ridge on the parking drum area of the rotor. There should be a round black rubber plug on the rotor, Pop it out,and loosen the parking brake adjuster screw. the rotor should then come off.try turning the rotor as you remove it-it may help.

Single rear wheel - Remove both caliper bolts.. remove caliper and pads.. remove rotor.. they are usually rusted on pretty good.

Rear Dually- the rear rotors are mounted with the hub assembly.. you must first remove the rear axles.. then remove nut holding load on bearings.. then the rotor and hub assembly will come off as one unit.. removed rotor from hub..

front or rear brake rotor? b sure to shut off the air ride system! the switch is located in the rear kick panel! lift and support front remove tires !the caliper has two mounting bolts remove those and hang caliper to the side using a metal coat hanger! now look at the bracket that was connected to the caliper remove those two bolts !the rotor should come off

How do I remove rear rotors

Just take the rear brake pad holder off and this should make the rotors free for removal.. two bolts in the pad holder and off it comes.. Jerry
