If they are electric locks, you could have a bad switch in the drivers door.  I had a similar problem.  The locks made a noise from time to time like they were rapidly locking and unlocking for 5 seconds at a time.  I replaced the toggle switch (lock/unlock) in the door and that fixed the problem.

The motor of the electric door locks on my 1996 Saturn keeps on cranking when I try to close the door. What is the fix on that?

Check both key slots on the outside of the door. The slots need to be straight up and down. If this doesn't help then the problem is in one of the switches inside the door

I have a 1996 Saturn SC2 and I need to change motor on driver side but can not get the out side part of door off. how do you remove that portion of the door?

Just wanted to let everyone know, in order to change the window regulator on a 1996 saturn you do need to remove the exterior door which is connected by about ten lock screws around the inside of the door. you also need to remove the side view mirror and the door handle which has a little plug on the bottom right side that should come out with a pair of needle nose or something, then the handle should slight to the left and off. Pull the hole outer panel up and off and there you go. But you do still need to remove the inner door panel to put new nuts and bolts to hold the new regulator in because the orginals are held in buy rivets so you have to drill those out.
Hope that helps anyone.

Keyless Entry and Remote

I have had this problem take you drivers door put your key and un-lock from the out side with key (NO) then open the door push un-lock from the inside button and then set from you remote and it should set if not push un-lock then lock and then do the un-lock with the key. Let me know if that works. what my car did was locked from the inside and I had the problem were it would not work till I un-locked from the out side plus I had to go to radio shack and change the battery from the control.
Hope good happens.

Door locks

You have to remove the outside part of the door panel. The screws are located around the edge of the inside panel. There is a pin in the outside handle that needs to be removed, prop it in the up position w/ a screwdriver handle or something, remove carefully if you can. The mirror comes off and a couple of more screws by inside handle ect. then you'll have both in and out off. Rather simple procedure if you're mechanically inclined.
