Question about 1992 Lexus Sc 300

92 lexus sc300 intermittent down shift problem

92 lexus sc300 150k, transmission intermittently will not down shift to first when leaving from a stop. I can get the car to shift manually through all gears, but intermittently it appears to start in second gear. Also the overdrive off light flashes but not sure if this is related to the shifting problem since it does not do it all the time. I recently had the trans. serviced, the mechanic said it was old but not burnt and not a lot of debris in the pan or filter. I am a female and don't want to get taken advantage of or be told I MUST replace transmission if that's not the case. HELP!!!

SOURCE: Wire color scheme for alternator plug.

ok ric , now the tensioner , notice a 15mm bolt head on the tensioner pulley , put a wrench on that 15mm head and turn clockwise , that will unload the tensioner , install your belt according to the belt wrap picture under the hood , release tensioner , and you should be good to go . however ,,,,,
last thing , there are like 5 fuses involved in this circuit , 1.) a 120 amp fuse in the fuse block , left side of engine compartment , 2.) a 60 amp fuse in the same place as #1 , 3.) a 7.5 amp fuse in the relay box - left side of engine compartment , 4.) a 7.5 amp in the left side of dash fuse panel , and 5.) another 7.5 amp fuse in the same panel as #4 . sure is a very well protected circuit ..

good job

Has the TCM been scanned for fault codes, do that first and see what shows up that might explain this. It is very likely you just need to rebuild the transmission.

It2004 rav4 wont start or crank even battery is newly replaced

My '01 Rav4 with 150k would not crank intermittently. Turns out the silver-plated neutral safety switch contacts (on the front of the transmission housing) were worn out down to the copper. Copper makes a poor switch contact because it oxidizes and makes intermittent contact. The 'jiggle the shift lever' test does not apply due to the way the switch is built. Since the replacement switch is over $200 I investigated (for the mechanically apt only!) by:
  • got screws and Nylock nuts to reassemble the case afterwards
  • take pictures of how it is mounted on the front of the ****** before dismounting it
  • cut the heads off the aluminum rivets
  • opened the switch up (careful to save all the tiny pieces)
  • it looks like a windshield-wiper arm inside with 3 sliding switch wipers that move across contacts. The contacts are silver plated copper and it had worn through the silver on half of each contact, plus there was black grease in there. I:
  • Q-tipped the black grease out, leaving the yellow grease
  • rotated the contacts 180 degrees which (on this particular switch) put it back to silver-on-silver
  • spread the yellow grease around
  • closed it back up using Nylock nuts and screws (if this falls apart you will be stuck!)
No problems so far after 6+ months.

On my 1997 Lexus SC300 w/ auto trans. I read the trouble code "shift solenoid B" I would like to know exactly where solenoid B is located. Can you help

I sure can. The shift selenoid is in the transmission. This component uses hydrolic pressure to change the gear ratio and exchange higher gears. You will need to remove the transnission in order to gain access to the shift selenoid. My advice is to get the fuild change or run a detergent/cleaner in the transmission to try and salvage it.

1991 toyota 4runner,2wheel drive,3.0 engine. The transmision will not down shift to low sometimes after stopping.I can manually bring it down i think to second and then go. This problem does not occur all...

I had the same problem on my '92 4runner and it was the 1-2 shift solenoid. The solenoids can be checked with an ohm meter but may read okay. Then while in service and warm, they will intermittently fail. I ended up changing the 1-2 shift solenoid and it solved the shift problem.

How do I reset check engine light on 04 lexus sc 430?

With a scanner at a repair shop or auto parts house. The light will come back on it you didnt fix the problem first. At least jot down the code before you clear it. Hopefully its an intermittant issue but some codes even tho intermittant could leave you stranded if not dealt with.

Car lurching a bit when shifting. Hesitates, then lurches. Inconsistent. At highway speeds noticed intermittent RPM fluctuations - up and back down again. thinking fuel filter or transmission?

I'd say for you to replace the fuel filter. It should only cost $20. I'm about to do that right now because I'm having similar problems. I've had that problem on my previous car and it went away after I replaced the fuel filter.
