when the 1996 ford windstar van is excellerating the radiator hose collapes' which caused the engine to overheat. what could the ailments be? The thermostat, if so where is its location.

A co-waorker has the same problem. I changed both radiator hoses, but the upper hose still collapses on itself. I thought maybe a slight headgasket leak may be causing a vacuum?

The hose may have separated inside; most are at least two layers plus fabric for strength and old hoses will fail internally and if the layers have come apart, the single layers can't resist collapsing when the water pump is turning at higher speed. You might check also to see if your coolant is uncontaminated since oil seeping into the cooling system past a failed headgasket can cause the hoses to deteriorate more rapidly.

Where is the water pump on a 2001 Windstar??

Well, it's not the water pump. That's on the other side. Your looking at the upper radiator hose, t-stat housing, the hose for the heater core, plus fittings, and the intake manifold gasket.

How to change thermostat in a ford windstar

Remove the 2 bolts on the casting at the end of the upper radiator hose on the engine, replace the thermostat and gasket, then put the retainer bolts back in tight enough it doesn't leak, then refill the radiator.

My heater on my 95 ford windstar blows cold air not hot what is it

Thermostat and change your radiator cap, if your adding antifreeze alot than it may be a blow head gasket. I was loosing antifreeze out my tail pipe, tried fiberlock http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/K-W-Products-32-oz-FiberLock-head-gasket-and-block-repair/_/N-255s?itemIdentifier=249495 and it worked. Make sure your upper and lower hoses are good and not squishy. I did the thermostat the radiator cap and hoese and I got my car working. I have 224,000. on my windstar and still going strong. And windstars are not know to live lone because of there head gaskets. Good luck.

Where and how do i locate my thermastat on my 96 ford thunderbird 3.8 v6?

Where the upper radiator hose goes into the engine. Remove the hose there and remove the thing the hose clamps to. The thermostat is there.

Ect high input

Hi: The engine coolant temp sensor, or ECT is located close to where the upper radiator hose conncects to the engine. It is a hex shaped sensor, with a electrical connector coming straight out from the end.

I need to replace the thermostat on my '98 Ford Windstar 3.8L but can't find its location. Where do I look for the thermostat ? What do I need to remove to get at it ?

In most cases... Follow the upper radiator hose to theengine. The hose clamp on the end is clamped to the thermostathousing. Drain the coolant through the petcock valve on the radiator,or place a large pan under the vehicle to catch what escapes. It'seasier to remove the hose from the therm housing, then remove thehousing. (put the thermostat back in the way it came out. Pointy endtowards the radiator.) Clean off the old gasket from both surfaces, install new therm, apply new gasket. reverse procedure and top offwith coolant.

Where Does The Overflow Tank Hose Connect

to weaker mixture will cause vehicle to overheat ,but i think that the radiator cap rubber has perished causing the coolant to throw out or the head gasket ,get the cooling system pressure tested ,and then run engine with gauge attached to check for excessive pressure build up ,(head gasket test) ,another trick is to fit a bottle to end of the overflow pipe so what goes out gets sucked back in when engine cools .Check the rubber seal in teh rad cap and check the seating that it pushes and closes onto.As for the sliding doors use your judgement and you will not go far wrong
