Oil Life Monitor Resetting (KD, KE)
The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil and the engine oil filter - usually between 5 000 km (3,000 miles) and 12 500 km (7,500 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the CHANGE OIL message may be displayed before 5 000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 12 500 km (7,500 miles) or 12 months without an oil change.
The engine oil life monitor will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5 000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message is displayed.
Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed.
Press the INFORMATION SKIP button on the DIC control panel in order to display the OIL LIFE LEFT message.
Press and hold the RESET NO button until the display shows 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE.
You should change your engine oil and oil filter at 3000 miles with a good brand engine oil then change it every 5000 miles or 6 months which ever comes first.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. Don't forget to rate me. burdfrenzy

The maintenance required light is there to remind you that your oil change is due. This light needs to be reset after the oil ic changed, it is manually reset. If you just had your oil changed, the light will not go off by itself. The light is designed to illuminate after 5,000 miles since the last reset procedure.
As the cars technology advances, the term tune up is fading and replacing with term Scheduled Maintenance Service. For most of the cars the time for these maintenance service is at 30K, 60K and 90K. You have to choices: Service your car by yourself, or send to a dealer. Because maintenance services might be as basic as an oil change, air filter replacement, or more complicated as brake job, coolant system flush, brake fluid flush, transmission oil and filter change, and finally as complicated as, timing belt/chain replacement, if you decide to service by yourself, I recommend to Haynes Repair Manual, Specific for your car. For your car Toyota provides all Scheduled Maintenance Services according to the miles on your car at: http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/ The answer for your question based on Toyota blog is:
Replace engine oil and oil filter Rotate tires Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating Conditions:
Driving While Towing Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis Driving on Dirt Roads or Dusty Roads Inspect ball joints and dust covers Inspect drive shaft boots Inspect engine air filter Inspect steering linkage and boots Re-torque drive shaft bolt (4WD) Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis
Applicable Footnotes: 1) Reset the oil replacement reminder light ("MAINT REQD") or the message "OIL MAINTENANCE REQUIRED" on the multi-information display after engine oil replacement.
The maintenance required light lets you know its time for an oil change. Once the oil is changed the light can be reset. The light will usually blink for a few seconds as you approach the 5,000 mile mark and then stay on steady as the 5,000 mile mark is reached or surpassed.
theres no problem, its set to come on every7500 miles just to remind you to do the service, like oil changes etc, all you do is make sure mileage is showing in display, then turn key off, then push the button that shows the trip mileage hold that button in then turn key on but dont start truck make sure dash lights come on like when starting, okay continue to hold button may take 15 -25 seconds until you see maint light go off, done.hope this helps.
If the fluid smells burnt or is black, replace fluid. Manufacturer suggests that you inspect it at every 30,000 mile interval. I would suggest having it flushed every 75,000 miles as a normal maintenence.
