Question about 1983 Jeep CJ7

1 Answer

Got a problem with my 1984 cj7 gauges?

I keep blowing fuses? I replaced the speedometer lights and apparently rewired wrong. None of my gauges work and the fuse blows immediately. Any ideas? I checked my diagram and its right. Did I pull out something else?

There should be an instrument panel fuse in the fuse box located inside the car. Check the fuse and replace in needed.

Gauges have their own fuse. Under dash fuse panel. If it keeps blowing, you have a short to the power wire.

Lights or fuse for my speed odemeter guage and heater/air conditioning system

These lights for the dash are controlled by a rheostat instrument control dimmer switch next to the main light switch for the headlights, it is either turned off (have seen this dozens of times) or it is defective. Below is a picture of the switch assembly I speak of. The thumb wheel next to the knob is the dimmer control.

Fuse for instruments, 10 amp keeps blowing speedometer and rpm gauge don't work changed fuse it just went right away

It sounds like there is an aftermarket(not stock) radio wired in. If the wrong wires were used for the face illumination, it will do this.

1984 F-150 none of the gauges work temp, volts

I would check with a Haynes (or equiv) manual. Probable fuse link from battery is out, a wire-type fuse "link". Check the fuse block, is there 12 volts coming in with key ign on? Does the truck start and run? Ignition switch is ok?

You should have a speedometer cable that runs from the back of the trani, thru the fire-wall, and into the back oh the gauge cluster.

No gauges on instrument panel

Apparently a (some) loose fuse(s). Unplugged, checked the fuse(s) and replugged. All is working fine.
Thank you -
