Same thing for me. I stopped at a red light last night and my 2002 Sportage just quit. I tried to crank it and it would not turn over, so I had the police push me over to a parking lot until I could figure out what to do. It has gas in it, my friend determined it was not vapor lock, but I was concerend that it may be the fuel filter or the fuel pump. However, I just had it serviced at the Grease Monkey 6 months ago, so I am scratching my head. I have seen several answers regarding the timing belt.....There is a Kia dealership not far from where I broke down, should I have it taken there or is this something that I can have a mechanic do right there in the parking lot?

the reason i ask about mileage is i always fear a broken timing belt. does the engine sound different when cranking. these belts are due to be changed every 60,000 miles. if they break, internal engine damage will likely result

Have you checked the fuel pump relay to see if it is sending power to the pump ? The computer grounds the relay when the computer "sees" oil pressure or engine RPM.

2002 kia sportage fuel pump needed replacing so we did and now car won't go

There maybe an air lock in the fuel line.
Try pouring a little fuel down the carby and then start the engine, you may need to do this a few times until the air lock is cleared.

No power to fuel pump

Your Kia may be equipped with a shock sensor that shuts down power to the fuel pump to prevent fires in case of an accident. Having seen this on several different vehicles, they will also shut down hitting a pothole or driving at speed on rough roads. The reset for these has been always behind a panel or in the trunk of such vehicles.
