Car sputters when you accelerate

When i accelerate from a start and cruising the car has a hard time accelerating. It shakes a lot and sputters. I replaced the spark plugs and air filter. What could it be???? Please i need help ASAP!

- The engine light has been on for quite a while, before this problem. I was getting ready to borrow a computer check and check the code but i haven't been able to. it idles very rough in drive, it shakes a lot. But in park it idles so so and then sometimes it shakes and then stops.

is the engine lite on? if a misfire shows, and the plugs are new, could be coil or wires. how does it idle? maybe air leak between mass air flow sensor and throttlebody.
