These are quite simple. The generally fasten with clips both at top and bottom. Replacements are readily available at general auto stores like O'reilly or Checker.

Have someone help, hold up the hood or prop with a sturdy stick. Unclip both top and bottome slip old shock off and slide new one in. Do for both sides.

Let me know if there are further complications that I'm not considering, but usually this is quite simple. I've also found at some stores like Checker, if you as for some help with these things, the nice man will come out and give you a hand.

I have a 2004 Jetta with 90,000+ miles on it. I have been told I need new shocks and struts by my mechanic. How do I know for sure that I need one or both without getting a second opinion? Is...

90,000 miles is not an uncommon mileage to replace the struts and shocks. If the shocks are leaking oil, or the car doesn't ride well, that is a good sign of needing replaced. You can also push down on the front or rearend, if it bounces up and down more than once, that would be another sign that it's time to replace them.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition

Probably have bad hood struts/shocks that hold it up. These can be obtained at the usual discount parts stores(Kragen,Autozone, Checker, etc) Usually just pop off on one end of a ball mount and unbolt the other after you have propped up hood. These shocks go bad from time or fluid leaks.

Can't remove dash to replace heater core in 2004 jeep grand chero

Need more info.
Where is your hang up? If I remember correctly the Jeep dash pad (all of the plastic) comes off first then if you need more access, the metal structure of the dash comes out. Make sure you un-bolt and un-plug the Passenger Air Bag because that comes with the dash pad. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY while the air bag is disconnected and make sure your body is grounded while you un-plug and plug in the air bag!!!

Fan speed control only powers HVAC blower on high 2005 Jeep Chero

Not usually too difficult, but once you locate it, you'll see. Some are under hood at firewall on passenger side area, and some are right on the housing under dash on passenger side, usually close to blower motor connection.
