(!) A Light like that went off and my steering well got stuck!?

So I came at a red light and my car stopped! Then, a light came on next to where it says [D] and it looks like an exclamation mark in a circle. When I would slow down, I felt a pull downward. My steering wheel felt like it was locking. so.....um...what does that mean? I can't find my owners manual!
( ! ) D
that's kinda what it looked like

Hello this the indicator for a transmision fault or problem /the pulling motion you felt could be a harsh shift from the transmision when you were coming to a stop . if the light is on the vehicle should feel slow when driving off because when this light is on the transmision will go in to felsafe mode and will actualy shift its self to 4 gear to give you a high gear for highway use . you should take the vehicle to a certified bmw shop or mecanic to have it check out , dont used it in fellsafe mode this could damage the transmision internaly and that will become a $ problem ,.

Battery when flat and now no power steering with red fault light.

Get your battery charged and get it tested. The steering wheel fault is generated usually when low battery power occurs, and once restored, and car is driven a few feet,it clears itself..

Car seemed to go into nutral on own

Next time this happens without stopping or pushing gas shift tranny into N and then back into D and see what happens. The battery light came on because of low RPMs, no biggy.

Chevy Cobalt - Battery saver light is on and the car won't start.

A couple days ago, my ignition went out on my car, (or so I thought), because my key wouldnt come out, and it would only turn back half way. Luckily, I had a spare key made to my car so i would use that to get in my car after I manually locked it. And it was good for a few days. Then one morning when I went to get into my car for work, it wouldnt start. A couple lights came on my dash that read "battery saver mode" and "engine power reduced". Then the security light came on (a little lock with a car picture flashed). And it started clicking and whining. My next thought was WTF?! So I woke my boyfriend up, we charged the car (battery is in the trunk if u didnt know) And it kinda started. The car was jumping all over and puttin and spuddering. We both knew their had to be way for the key to come out of the car, it was recognizing it was in park, and i would move the steering wheel and nothing. Well, under the steering wheel, theres a little cover, take that off, and put your finger up in that hole, you`ll feel a button, push that and your key will come right now. I started my car after that, and everything was normal!!! It still gets stuck in the ignition, but this is my temp. fix untill i get the money to get a new ignition =)

Power steering went out, then the car shut down,

It sounds like your serpentine belt broke. Look under the hood and see if you see pulleys without a drive belt (on the front of the engine). Replace the belt if necessary.
