Question about 1997 Chrysler Sebring
Car wont shift past 2nd if im lucky. sometimes takes off other times i have to punch the accelorator more then 5 times to take off. rpms rise but speed doesnt rise with it. i try to take off and engine just revs sometimes it wont even go into reverse.. any help would be great also it is not a convertible
The same thing happened to my 97 sebring convertable.....i replaced the sensors and i still had the problem. take it to auto zones and have them read the codes from your computer. the computer will tell you whats wrong with it....the shift solenoid on my tranny went out and im still looking to repair it. the solenoid pack is 105-200 from ebay. but good luck finding the info to do it yourself. i been looking for 2 weeks and still nothing. good luck!

Hi, what is going on is the trans. computer is detecting a problem with the trans. The trans. is in limp in mode. It is designed for the trans. to not let the car go past 45 miles per hour. It is meant for the owner to be able to drive the car to a repair facility. As for the revving, the trans. may be slipping due to worn clutches. This is why the engine speed will rise but the car isn't going very fast. If the car is able to go down the road ok, watch the speedo and see if it's working properly. If not, the speed sensor is not working correctly. This problem will cause the trans. to go into limp in mode as well. The fact that the car does not go into reverse, my guess is the trans. has gone bad.
