2006 dodge charger will no shift out of park...

I have just pruchased a used dodge charger and it has less than 25,000 miles on it. I have just discovered my first problem with it b/c it will not shift out of park. It seems to be stuck or something and I also tried to push the release button under the middle console and that is not working either?? I guess what I am wondering is if this is a common problem and can be fixed or is it a tranmission problem and how can I get this fixed???

I tried pushing the pink button and that did not work either. I even had to call a tow truck driver and he could not get it to shift out of park either. So we ended up dragging the vehice onto the tow truck and dropping it off at the dealer so that they can fix it. Any suggestions as to what I can do so that this does not happen again in the future???

The shifter interlock system has messed up...the shifter will need replaced...to get it to a dealer without towing it remove the bezel around the shifter...there are 2 screws you need to remove near the dash to do this....once you have it removed you should be able to see the cables...start the car push the brake .the cable nearest the driver is the interlock cable follow it rearward to the pink plastic piece..push the piece back and pull the shifter out of park...if the vehicle has been in service less than 36 months the shifter should be covered under waranty

Try rocking the car back and forth while trying to shift out of park.
Some cars need the brake pedal pressed to shift as well...

Had a caravan once and if it was placed in park and it rolled slightly, it would put pressure on the trans...locking it up to where I couldn't shift out of park.

Hope this helps...

Dodge charger will not shift out of park 2006

there is a solenoid that is operated when you put your foot on the brake to shift out of park, if the solenoid doesnt recieve power than either you have no power to the switch on the brake pedal to activate the switch (check fuses) or the solenoid itself has gone bad, the solenoid is usually right next to where the shifter is located

I cannot get the gear to shift down

check the brake lights, the shifter has a safety feature that will not allow u to shift out of park if your foot is not on the brake and the brake lights are working, if the brake lights are working there is a bypass to get it out of park under a little cover next to the shift handle.

2006 Dodge Charger stuck in Park.

10591.jpg In the event of an electrical failure, the vehicle can be shifted out of PARK by using the following procedure.
1. Turn the key to the ACC or ON position. 2. Remove the liner to the cubby bin to the right side of the shifter. 3. Depress the BTSI override (2) on the side of the shifter assembly (1). 4. While the override is depressed, move the shifter out of the PARK position. 5. Return the cubby bin liner to its original location.
