1999 F250 SD 7.3L cold starting problem

I have a 1999 F250 SD 7.3L power stroke that is very hard to start in cold weather (30-40 degrees). I have to cycle thought the glow plug for 5-10 minutes. Sometimes it starts to fire off an quits and other time it just cranks. Eventually it will just fire right up.

I have same systems on 2000 F250 SD 7.3L. When below 40°F, tough to start after it sits a few hours. Sometimes will catch briefly, other times just crank. After 5-10 tries letting it sit a minute in between, it will just start up.

Yes, my 2003 did the same with about 75k miles on it, stranded me on days it stayed under 40F unless I plugged in the block heater the night before, then it started like a champ. Dealer replaced the relay and a control unit under ESP warranty. There's no way to fix this one without throwing parts at it.

Check the injectors have proper oil pressure the 7.3 has a huey system on it, meaning it has to see 750# of oil pressure before it will start. I had 6 bad injectors that had to be replaced. I used Diesel Power out of Paduacah KY $255.00 each + $200 core.
Thanks, Scott

1999 Malibu hard start in hot weather, after it starts runs great lots of power. starts when cold in cooler weather.V6 3.1 engine. have gas at rail. changed spark plugs and wires, IAT and ECT sensors also...

this is most likely a fuel vapor issue.

fuel boils in the fuel rail causing a hard start after a 'hot soak'.

the fix is to replace the fuel pressure regulator and the pcm. good- day !!

I have a 1999 ford f250 and i am having hard time starting it in the cold weather. What do I do?

Make sure your plug wires are not being affected (brittle, old, etc}. An engine oil heater works well in cold areas. Possible thickening of oil.

Won't start below 40 degrees, wait to start light does not even come on

Your glow plug controller is out, or there is an interruption in its power source, etc. Diesels are coldblooded by nature, and most need glow plugs to heat them up before starting in cold weather. The controller supplies the power to the glow plugs, but if it goes bad, or its supply of power isn't there, it won't start in cold weather, and that wait to start light which is also controlled by it won't come on.

This engine 'loves' glow plugs! One goes and the others try to handle the amps. Change them and you will have no probs! Other than that, I feel this is about the best diesel truck made!

replace the idle air control valve, does it start if you step on gas pedal, and when it starts does it idle up and down and stall sometimes if so then replace that valve, good luck.

BMW 325, hard to start in hot weather.

before you try to start her again in hot weather, open your fuel filler cap, listen for any pressure release, close the cap, and try to start, if this works, then its just heat expansion in the fuel tank, replace the filler cap if this is the case

1992 Ford F250 7.3 Diesel hard to start

It is possible that some of the glow plugs might not be working. This will cause a hard start and smoking condition especially in cold weather.
