2008 Impala - keyless entry doesn't work in cold weather

When the temperature drops below around 40 degrees, the keyless entry and remote start won't work - unless I'm just a couple of feet from the car. Same result with second remote. Dealer reprogrammed remotes - same issue. Checked batteries on remotes. They are fine. Doubt it's a remote problem, because they weren't exposed to the cold - only the vehicle. Even on warm days, distance is not great. But it works while I'm still in the house.

Spoke with the dealer service rep and was told that there has been a service bullitin issued on these remotes, They are aware of the problem. Takeing the car in Tuesday 1/13/09 for new remotes. Hope that solves the problem,i'll post the result.

SOURCE: Remote start and door locks will only work from 10 feet or less

i had the same problem... go through the menu until you see reprogram remote. hit the check mark button and hold the lock and unlock button until the horn honks. key has to be on car not running though. You will eventually have to do it again but for some reason it will work for a while.

2002 Chevy 1500, 5.3. It turns over but no start below 40 degrees, above 40 fine. Put heater in cab for few minutes and starts?

One possible reason for this could be a faulty engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. The ECT sensor tells the engine control module (ECM) the temperature of the engine coolant, which is used to adjust the air/fuel mixture for starting. If the ECT sensor is faulty, it may be sending incorrect temperature readings to the ECM, causing the engine to not start in cold weather.

Another possibility could be a weak fuel pump check valve. When the fuel pump check valve fails, it can cause the fuel pressure to drop when the engine is turned off, which can cause hard starting in cold weather .

It's also possible that the battery is weak and not providing enough power to start the engine in cold weather. Cold temperatures can reduce the battery's cranking power, which can make it difficult to start the engine.

I would recommend taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic to diagnose the issue.

Ford 2008 F-350 remote starts great in warm weather will not start in cold. all lights glow plugs ect working just wont start truck and only if 35 degrees and below.

Since batteries lose almost half their cranking power at freezing, and since diesels require much higher fuel temps to start than gasoline engines, many recommend using a block heater whenever the temperature is under 35-40 degrees if starting becomes a problem.

2008 HHR Remote Starter not working

Is this an issue with all 2008 HHR remotes??? Highly doubtful , probably the vehicles keyless entry system . Taking the vehicle to a qualified repair shop an having the keyless entry system checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . Do you know what a DTC is ?
The keyless entry system is a vehicle entry device. The keyless entry system is used in conjunction with the body control module (BCM) to remotely activate certain vehicle features. Keyless entry will lock/unlock the doors, or release the rear compartment lid when a corresponding button on the keyless entry transmitter is pressed. This is accomplished by the transmitter sending a radio frequency to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). The RCDLR interprets the signal and activates the requested function via a serial data message to the BCM. A low transmitter or vehicle battery or radio frequency (RF) interference from aftermarket devices, such as 2-way radios, power inverters, computers, etc., may cause a system malfunction. High RF traffic areas may also cause interference that could lead to a malfunction. Keyless entry allows you to operate the following components:
• Door locks
• Liftgate lock
• Remote rear doors (Panel only)
• Vehicle locator/panic alarm
• Illuminated entry lamps
• Remote vehicle start
The keyless entry system has the following components:
• Keyless entry transmitters
• Keyless entry antenna
• 2 Way Advanced Remote Start RCDLR
• BCM

Guessing will not fix this .

Remote starter does not work. keyless entry does work. 2008 impala.

I experienced this exact problem and found a note in the manual about fuel pressure problems if the gas cap is not properly inserted. I removed the fuel cap and reinserted it and the remote start worked fine since.
