Question about 1992 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

Bendix popping out but gear not spinning at the same time.

Car not starting. I replaced the battery and starter and also spun flywheel to make sure engine was not locked. Solenoid is ground to the engine. Attempted to jump the starter directly by applying positive to the main post and negative to the ground post and using a screwdriver to short it out. Still the starter will not pop and spin at the same time.
Any ideas?

Your pins on your pistons most likely feel. That means you need a new engine. It would act like its almost seized if the pins broke. If your engine over heated on the last time you ran the motor then that is most likely the solution.

If the starter is spinning and not engaging the flywheel to start the car, suspect a defective starter drive clutch and starter replacement will be required

I have a 1985 bronco II 2.8l 5 speed manual, I replaced my starter 2 times and rebuilt my original starter so a total of three difernt starter's still nothing.. starter just spins.. I checked my flywheel...

Since no one has answered yet, I will comment. When any of these starters turned, their bendix switch should have extended to catch the flywheel. On some, a pin is used to position the bendix on the starter shaft.

Can not say why original bendix does not work except that it must be pinned to the shaft. For replacement starters, there can be differences in the gear size of the bendix. Even some gears have different amounts of teeth on the bendix gear. Have not heard of needing shims to mount the starter to the Ford engine, but old GM products were shimmed. For that matter, some windings inside starters could be reversed, especially in Marine dual engine applications.

You went to a lot of work to change the flywheel, check the length of the starter to see if it is mounting deep enough to catch the flywheel. Maybe the bell housing is interfering with installation.

Replaced the starter on my 1992 Isuzu Rodeo ( 4 whl dr, 6 cyl., manual ******), and the bendix will only spin when cranking. It does not pop out and catch the flywheel. Battery, starter, wiring, ect. all...

i dont think the starter will spin until the bendix comes all the way out. Thats the way most are wired. you sure the flywheel is good. you sure the wires are on correctly? why did you replace it in the first place?

1993 1.9 saturn sc2 starting problems

Sounds like the the Bendix is bad in the starter, which pushes out the drive gear to engage the flywheel. You'll need to replace the Bendix or the starter. It's a bit tough to get to the starter, it is underneath the intake manifold.

When the 2000 impala cools down I try to start it and it just clicks, I replaced battery and starter

It's not your starter or battery it sounds like a fuel problem to me, check and see if your fuel pump is working alright or not it seems to me that your engine is vapor locking every time your get your engine up to temp. and turn it off it's vapor locking your fuel system have your fuel pump and complete system checked out.
