Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 95 jeep grand cherokee limited 5.2 l. that will notstart

The problem has been getting worse and worse over the last few weeks. it usually would start if the key was in the ignition and turned on for awhile. when the key has been left on though it would start doing a rapid series of clicks that come from the fuel pump fuse and what looks like a small diaphragm next to the distributor. after awhile the clicking would stop and then the jeep would start right up like nothing was even wrong. what would most likely be the problem? fuel system or electrical?

ID the component and get back to me, this may require a trip to the dealer parts dept.

98 pontiac bonneville-ignition not engaging

There are a few components that could cause the problem. Bearing in mind the hard turn issue last week, I would first suspect the manual ignition switch, which is located on top of the steering column under the dash( not the key switch). All other components would not affect the hard turning issue, other than a dry ignition lock cylinder, so that's why I would first check out that mechanical switch.
I don't know your level of aptitude or what tools you have, but this is not a very difficult fix - but it will take time.
If you would like to fix this yourself, let me know and I will be happy to help walk you through the procedure.
Hope this helps!!

I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 5.7L Hemi. I have had a starting issue I turn the key - nothing Turn the key a few more times the engine cranks and starts. It was doing this last spring...

is the engine grounded to the body? if so, you may have a key issue that's only going to get worse. your key is coded, black square ignition key right? $75.00 dealer only. sorry but it sounds like that's your problem. almost like a valet key. only works for short time and if you keep using it, it will blow the fuel pump$379.00 please do more research! hope this helps, and merry christmas from me and mine,to you and yours.

Car dies while driving, now it won't start sometimes

Could be a fuel pump that is going bad. Some times when fuel pumps go bad they cavitate and pump not just gas but also air. If you get too much air in the line and not enough gas the car won't start. Have a mechanic check your fuel line pressure.

Turn the key but nothing happens all electrics

Not all replacement parts are good. I would guess that the new ignition switch is bad. Its also possible that the wiring harness is loose where its connected to the ignition switch. You could try jiggling the wires.

Key won't come out of ignition - won't turn completely off

Ignition switch (where key actually goes in) needs replaced. May be easier to get the whole column because that's not gonna be very simple. Also for the problem of getting nothing when you turn the key all the way over, that is the contacts within the box of the switch down the harness on the column. Not an impossible fix though. Contacts usually get burnt and give you dead spot once in awhile, will get worse, believe me.

Sometimes will not shift out of Park

I have the same issue. As far as I can tell it's probably the ignition switch and or/ ignition lock assembly. Parts only you can find the switch for $65. If you replace the ignition lock assembly you should have it ordered for your car by VIN # to get a matching key.

that sounds like its the ignitionswitch is going bad on the car or its the ignition its self. it could also be a loose wire going to your starter.
