this is covered in the FSM, book
the factory service manual.
id bet pulling the engine is more easy. (for sure the 4L)
id did this, one time by jacking up the engine, mounts pulled.
(on a bet) and removed pan. 4.0L inline 6 .
to get pan free , had to pull the pump blindly! (hard trick)

Engine idles rough, lopes, but at highway speeds runs good. under load like pulling trailer temp climbs almost to overheating any ideas?

have auto zone run a scan on the truck its free overheating you need a seperate cooler for you trans pulling trailer put a high load on trans this will make the trans last longer and run cooler I would put the cooler as low as possible in the very front of your radiators

My 4 wheel drive sounds like its engaging but front wheels not pulling.

the acutator on the front diff. might not be working even though its engaging in the trans for the gear ratio it still sounds like its not engaging in the front diff.

I have a 78 Dodge Ramcharger, 4x4 auto. trans., when in low lock on transfer case (# 203) pulling up out of a creek bed, I heard a fairly loud clunk from the front end, backed-off on the gas a little...

if it has a spring between the side gears , it may be a limited slip diff center and the noise may have been the limited slip action coming off or engaging when one front wheel lost traction
if there is no metal bits in the diff then it may be nothing as long as both wheels turn the diff center , then the axle will still be intact

I pulled all the bellhousing bolts..motor mount bolts...and can't seperate the 4 speed granny transmission from the engine block...what's the problem..everything is lose but won't seperate..

The input shaft (on the front of the trans) is inserted into the clutch plate, so the trans has to move straight backward (or the engine has to move straight forward) about two or three inches to separate the two, before either one can move up or down.

Make sure that you can get them to rotate slightly with respect to each other, to make sure that there is not one more bolt somewhere that is still holding them together.

If you are pulling the engine, make sure that you have already removed the radiator, otherwise when you pull the engine forward, it could go too far and smash the radiator.

Putting a clutch and transmission wont seperate

you need to lift the rear of the engine about 2"then wiggle the transmission while pulling out the idle shaft from the other words keep the trans/engine in a straight line when pulling apart.....

Repalceing engine on a 1999 Jimmy 4x4...stiil have one bolt left in bell housing...Doesnt look like it will even clear the fronr diff...does the motor and trans need to come out as one ? Do i have to drop...

Hello, these are tough bolts to get out of the bell housing. to answer your question, no the trans or front diff does not have to be removed

How to remove oil pan. Engin is raised as far as possible, oil pan hitting front of trans. 1983 ford mustang 5.0

i hate to say it but... i recommend pulling the engine out and putting it on an engine stand. while it is out replace crank seals and inspect freeze plugs.

Engine removal and intsalling!!

weather its diesel or V6 petrol you can remove small tin engine sump and oil pick ups then undo all 4 diff case mounting bolts to chassis one at a time remove and put back in only a few turns this then drops diff assembly down then install motor
works a treat!!!

you could be lazy and bend lip of tin engine sump over bolts in rear left side with hammer this works also but still is a bit of a struggle over that diff.

Front diff oil leak

remove entire trans,remove 8 bolts and then remove front differential case at this time you will need to remove torque convertor with tube do not remove this tube from the convertor it drive the oil pump, the gasket is liquid gasket make sure surface is clean,also at this time replace torque convertor seal and seal tube this tube seperates transmission fluid from gear oil good luck
