Do they have computer that supply the electronics on a transmission on a 2001 yukon xl

Yes ,don't know which transmission you have ,4L80-E or 4L60-E but both are controlled by the PCM - powertrain control module .
The 4L80-E is a fully automatic rear wheel drive electronically controlled transmission. The 4L80-E provides four forward ranges, including overdrive and reverse. A gear type of oil pump controls shift points. The powertrain control module (PCM) and the pressure control (PC) solenoid, force motor, regulate these shift points. The PCM also controls shift schedules and TCC apply rates. Transmission temperature also influences shift schedules and TCC apply rates.
The 4L60-E transmission utilizes a line pressure control system during upshifts to compensate for the normal wear of transmission components. By adjusting the line pressure, the PCM can maintain acceptable transmission shift times. This process is known as "adaptive learning" or "shift adapts" and is similar to the closed loop fuel control system used for the engine.
Basic Knowledge
Notice: Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to diagnose a powertrain condition without basic knowledge of this powertrain. If you perform diagnostic procedures without this basic knowledge, you may incorrectly diagnose the condition or damage the powertrain components.
You must be familiar with some basic electronics in order to use this section of the service manual. You should also be able to use the following special tools:
?€¢
A digital multimeter (DMM)

?€¢
A circuit tester

?€¢
Jumper wires or leads

?€¢
A line pressure gage set

96 Seville SLS... Service engine soon lit, and display reads service emission system, now its kinda sluggish, and doesn't seem to want to shift gears when accelerating, what's wrong with this Damn...

Hello
When the service engine soon light (Also called the check engine light or engine management light) is turned on this is to alert you to the fact that Powertrain Control Module (computer) has detected a failure somewhere in the systems it controls you may not feel any difference in the way the engine runs, this can be the transmission or the engine or emission system, there are fault codes set in the modules memory for these faults. What needs to happen now is to have the powertrain control module scanned with a special tool called an OBD2 electronic engine control scanner or a OBD2 code reader. Once the code(s) are read then you must perform the diagnostics for each code and make the appropriate repairs based on the findings of the diagnosis that was performed, this is called doing "Pinpoint" testing.

Transmission shifts too soon

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems.

Ford trauras trouble code 732 - was told transmission code 732 was being produced, what does a code 732 say?

P0732 FORD - Incorrect Second Gear Ratio
Transmission in second gear and the ECM detected an incorrect gear ration. This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B

A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from Engine Control Module (ECM)
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (2nd) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Incorrect transmission shifting

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

Tech notes
Start by inspecting the transmission fluid level and condition, and change fluid if necessary.

Hope helps.

Check engine light on, sounds like a fan belt what could it be?

Hi there,

The "check engine" light is part of your car's so-called onboard diagnostics (OBD) system. Since the 1980s, computers increasingly have controlled and monitored vehicle performance, regulating such variables as engine speed (RPM), fuel mixture, and ignition timing. In some cars, the computer also tells the automatic transmission when to shift.

When it finds a problem in the electronic-control system that it can't correct, the computer turns on a yellow warning indicator that's labeled "check engine," "service engine soon" or "check power train." Or the light may be nothing more than a picture of an engine, known as the International Check Engine Symbol, perhaps with the word "Check." In addition to turning on the light, the computer stores a "trouble code" in its memory that identifies the source of the problem, such as a malfunctioning sensor or a misfiring engine. The code can be read with an electronic scan tool or a diagnostic computer, standard equipment in auto repair shops. There are also a number of relatively inexpensive code readers that are designed for do-it-yourselfers.

Good luck!

Transmission not wanting to shift with fast take off ,check engine light is on, seems to work ok with slow take off.

Did the 'Check Engine' Light come ON? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

"service engine soon" sign keep blinking Nissan 1998 quest

HI. the check engine light will illuminate when a sensor fault is detected. all sensors on your vehicle work in conjunction with the CPU on board. they relay information for the CPU to process. this information allows the CPU to initiate certain actions like fuel pump operation and proper charging of the battery and proper coolant flow as well. if one of the vital sensors start to malfunction and cant send and receive any information to the cpu, it will launch a self diagnostic alert , which is this check engine light. This will become illuminated to inform you of some sort of malfunction within the engine itself. the best thing now is to take this vehicle to the dealership for a quick scan. Once the problem is found, they can fix it and shut off the check or service engine light.

As for the life span of a Nissan transmission, these builds will last quite a while if you take good care and preform proper maintenance. The the normal life span of a typical mini van transmission is 100,000 miles. This nissan's transmission should get about 120,000 or more. The key to a long life span of a transmission is good care and proper maintenance like, changing the filters regularly and flushing the contents as well as changing the fluid every 60,000 miles.

SIGNS OF TRANS failure
Slippage of any gear cycle.
Hard shifting and abnormal grinding during gear changes on a hill.
Miss shifts.(not being able to shift on time or sticking in a certain gear over the rpm rate)
Black transmission fluid or metal fragments inside the transmission pan.
Gear shift slipping out of drive or reverse is a failure point as well.

Please rate and god bless:)

What does service engine soon mean -exactly?

the service engine soon light means that a fault has occurred in the engine control electronics or the emission system controls, and in your case the transmission will also set the light, when this light is on one or more of the following codes will be stored in the on board computers memory. follow the link below for a list of GM codes for your OBD 2 (On board diagnostics generation 2) electronic engine management system.

No passing gear

My car did (past tense) the same thing. The service engine light is flashing until you let off the gas because raw fuel is being dumped into the catalytic converter. The transmission won't shift because the converter is plugged. When you push the pedal to the floor the transmission computer holds the transmission in gear. Meanwhile the engine computer is raising the rpms. It will seem like a transmission problem but it is more likely a plugged catalytic converter. I had converter changed. The engine has A LOT more power, great acceleration and the transmission shifts perfectly.
